    1. [TXREDRIV] Madras Cemetery/Old Shiloh Cem.

    3. I am a new member to this list and I am a descendant of the Ballard Gates Beldsoe family of Clarksville. I have alot of information, pictures and stories on the Blesoe family. They came to Red River Co. in 1861. If any of you are researching this family, please contact me. I do have a question. The Bledsoe's are buried in the Madras Cemetery, Ollie Bledsoe was a charter member. My mother says she remembers going to an anniversary celebration for the Old Shiloh Church and you could sit in the old church and look out at the graves. Is the Madras Cemetery and the Old Shiloh Church Cemetery the same place? Thank You Diane Miller

    3. Diane Miller, I will get back to you with the little Bledsoe family connection I have later after I check my files. My Giddens family was at Concord Community/Cemetery about 2 miles east of Madras. Madras Cemetery and Old Shiloh are two different cemeteries. The old Shiloh Cemetery is about a mile or more northwest of Madras Cemetery. I will check it all out later but from memory there was a Presbyterian Church at the Old Shiloh location (the old cemetery is still there of course), then it move to the present location at Madras. To confuse this the Presbyterian Church in Clarksville was originally at Madras before it move to Clarksville.. This may be when the Shiloh Church more to Madras location where the Clarksville Church moved from. I have walked both of the cemeteries. Madras is extremely well kept, the old Shiloh has a nice gate and a historical monument inside the gate, but it is not well kept. Someone must be mowing it from time to time because it is weedy but not brushy, you can wall it all. From my old notes now, I see the monument dates the cemetery at 1833. Two old names in the cemetery are Latimer & Hamilton. Jim Giddens Paris/Clarksville, Tx p.s. I believe I will find my Bledsoe connect to the Bill Woods family that lives today at Madras. Bill's sister, Gillie Woods Quick lives just across the road from the Madras Cemetery. He is in her 80s and is a jewel to visit with. She has lived there all her life. More later. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diane Miller" <dianermiller@cox-internet.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2003 12:48 PM Subject: [TXREDRIV] Madras Cemetery/Old Shiloh Cem. > I am a new member to this list and I am a descendant of the Ballard Gates Beldsoe family of Clarksville.
