Sam & Tom have been quiet for some time again. Tom is probably at the lake, Sam I hope you are ok and just resting. I have been to Old Shiloh Cemetery today and to Concord Cemetery with my 15 yr old grandson. Shiloh has some weeds with stickers but other that that it is in ok shape except for some standing water in some places. We viewed the Latimer and Hamilton markers plus some other but I did not have my note pad with me. I was actually on a fishing outing with my grandson. Isn't it odd that we were fishing within 1 or 2 miles of Old Shiloh. The oldest burial date I read at Old Shiloh was 1840. I also found a Cherry. William J Cherry 23rd Calvary Company K, CSA. (I think it was 23rd). The 1840 marker appeared to have the last name of Lucy, but is was very difficult to read. Then there were the Smith children and maybe the parents. Come to think of it the 1840 date may have been on the Smith child. (where was my note pad). I took several pictures. Seems I recall the Rogers (Rodgers) name on a marker also. We drove by Free Hope Cemetery just about 1/4 mile north of Old Shiloh. It has a nice gate with a bell hanging from the arch. Shiloh also has a good gate with the state monument just inside the gate. Then we went to Concord Cemetery. I saw Gillie Quick out working in her yard and talked with her for a few minutes as we were almost to Concord. Gillie said Bill (her brother) did some work at Concord yesterday. Boy did they ever do some work. It is in great shape. They had burned all the brush/limbs, cut down a old dead tree that was on the south edge fence (not one of the huge beautiful trees in the cemetery). They had burned off a lot of weeds on the back side. And cleared up the Roberts lots on the back side also. He must have had his boys with him because the Gillie Giddens mark had been set back on it's block after the winter storm 2 years ago knocked it off but did not damage it. I was very pleased that my grandson, Wesley James Giddens enjoyed the cemetery tour. He help me to read some of the markers at Shiloh. (I know we have a Cherry researcher on the board) Jim Giddens Paris, Tx p.s. now let me go back a read my e-mail box for the day.
Thanks for missing me Jim, but I have still been having trouble with those stones, and finally got the all clear signal this past Monday, then had to put my wife in the Hospital the next day with her heart. Thank GOD I got her out OK today, but I have been quite because I get tired myself talking about my ailments, so I know the list would get tired too, so I'm about ready to start babbling again.
