Hello everyone, I have a friend that is trying to adopt a Cherokee baby. She is having to prove that her relatives were in OK in 1907 and on the rolls. She is needing this to become a member. I know a little of this, but could someone point me to any helpful sites or someone with experience in this. At this point, I have her started in the documentation process of her lineage. She is going to start gathering birth and marriage records and then I will help her with census records after 1900. She has Cherokee blood on both sides of her family so it is there just need to prove it for membership. Thanks, Drew Slate Fort Worth, Tx
Drew, I have forwarded on to my daughter your message asking her if she has any suggestions other than the 1898 Dawes Roll and 1909 Guion Miller Roll. (She assisted her mother-in-law in locating information on her father who was 1/2 Cherokee.) The only other suggestion I may pass along is the National Cherokee home page at cherokee.org. I believe they have a great deal of information, which maybe of help to your friend. Good luck to her in obtaining the required information.
