Jim G ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Giddens To: Red River County Roots Sent: Friday, September 20, 2002 11:22 AM Subject: Restoring on E Main I just talked to Ben Black of the C-Times. I informed him of Cynthia's message about the tombstones. It seem there is a man that has a get-a-way home in Red River Co that replaces old markers with new ones and then just discards the old ones. Not sure if that is the same case as these 2 markers. Ben said he even concreted over one entire cemetery. Did not get all the details on this but Ben told me approx where it was. Sounds strange to me. Ben definitely does not agree with the man doing this unannounced, so to speak. We feel the man believes he is doing a very good thing at his own expense. I think he is doing a good thing, but he should contact the family to seek their wishes and to strongly consider the future of the old markers. They should be preserved if at all possible. Ben say his wife corrected his newspaper statement about a bed & breakfast in the old house. She understood the man to say he would have bedrooms upstairs (and maybe a kitchen area so some food could be fixed) Ben shook me this morning on the phone when he said he went by the house and it had been leveled. He mean the house is now "level". (setting up straight). The Times does list in the paper their phone and fax numbers and there e-mail address alone with their smail address if anyone is interested.
