I made a big circle in north RR Co today (Sue even went with me). A lot of work has been done at Slate Cemetery but still a lot more to day. The excessive trees have been cut down as has the brush. The brush is in about 8 to 12 large piles with the tree trucks that have been cut into sections of about 2 ft in lengths. I took some pictures and will send them to Drew a little later tonight. Stopped at Concord. The marker I checked on is Grenia C. wife of W.H. Piephoff b Sept 5, 1856 d. Dec 8, 1893 Also at Stones Chapel (Cherry) Cemetery. The Carpenter (forget the fist name) is buried the next grave east of my Dad's little sister that died at the age of 4 on Nov 14, 1912. She died of cholera (sp). Carpenter died exactly 14 days later. I wonder if he had cholera also. (Cynthia, is this your relative). Later, Jim Giddens Paris, Tx
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. You are right though, it will take quite a bit of work before the cemetery will be back in good shape. Thanks for going by and taking a look. Have received the photos and they are great! Thanks so much. Amazing difference. I can't wait to go see it all in person. There is still alot of work to be done, but we will get there one day. I even got another volunteer to help the other, our fellow lister Max Shumake. I am hoping to get up to see it this month sometime. I guess I need to bring my gas weedeaters and chainsaw with me... Thanks Jim! I really appreciate it! Drew Slate Fort Worth, Tx p.s. It was great to see Rev. Slate's marker still standing... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Giddens" <jimg@cox-internet.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 05, 2003 7:42 PM Subject: [TXREDRIV] Slate > I made a big circle in north RR Co today (Sue even went with me). He was my grandfather's brother. I have a death certificate somewhere in my file cabinet, but I couldn't find it. I can't remember whether it said what he died from. I am curious to know. My dad was 2 yrs old at the time and he was expected to be dead from the cholera the next day, but he was saved by the creosote the doctor gave him. Now I remember the name Walter. Also his marker is very similar to the style (maybe exact but larger) of my little aunt's marker, which is about 8 ft behind Walter's marker. Jim Giddens Paris (Reno), Tx (stop at the Reno Quick Stop, holler real loud, and I will hear you.) p.s. I am have sent Drew 5 pictures of the Slate Cemetery I took today. No it is not digital. I had them processed at the 1 hour photo shop. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cynthia Samples" <samples88@earthlink.net> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 05, 2003 10:10 PM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV]Carpenter > > > > Also at Stones Chapel (Cherry) Cemetery.
