(I took the liberty to forward my reply to the entire board, to a question to me directly. You never know who may be interested. ____________________________________________________________________________ _____ Cathy, Yes it is the same drug store. When I bought the business (not the building) in Jan 1970, Bill Moore had died. Mrs Katie Moore and her son Billy Ray were running a grocery store two building to the west of Gathings Drug Store. I changed the name to Avery Pharmacy. I will find the old prescriptions (in the attic). I don't have but about 6 or 8, I do not remember the Dr Collins being one of the doctors, but not sure. There were still some Collvins in Avery when we were there, and they are still there. Later, Jim Giddens p.s. You might be surprised at the interest. ----- Original Message ----- From: <dobie@cowtown.net> To: "Jim Giddens" <jimg@cox-internet.com> Sent: Sunday, June 29, 2003 3:49 PM Subject: Avery TX > Jim, > I am a member of the Red River mailing list and just saw your recent posting regarding the Gathings > drug store and your mention of having some old 1917 and 1918 prescriptions. Hi Jim, Thanks for the history on this and I appreciate your checking the old prescriptions. I was ten years old when my grandmother Cooper passed away, but I have fond memories of visiting with her and going to the drug store for "coffee break" while visiting with Katie Moore. A child's memory can be easily confused, but I think Katie and Bill bought the Cooper grocery, which was on the end/corner of that line of businesses. The Moores were also family connections through GG-Grandparents William Thomas (1850-1920) and Emily Jane Chaney BOZE; daughter Isadora married Emmerson MOORE and daughter Corena (1878-1950) married Dr. COLLVINS.
