    1. [TXREDRIV] mowery
    2. List: This is kind of long but since there are several that are interested in the Mowery's I am forwarding on an e-mail that I received several years ago, it contains lots of interesting inf. Beverly Presson Bakersfield, CA April 1, 2000 Beverly, I came across your information on my great grandmother. I assume that you to are a descendant of this dear lady. Your information did not include my grandfather Luther Monroe Mowery or a second son who was killed during World War I. I recall seeing a picture of the military company that grand dad's brother was in. An interesting thing about the picture was that one of the soldiers was in the picture twice. The explanation was that the camera was one of the old type that had a crank on it and they turned the camera while it was taking the picture. One of the men jumped down off the platform and ran around behind the other soldiers and made it to the other side before the camera was turned all the way to the opposite side of the company of men. My grand dad was born in December 8, 1873; and died in 1955. He married Elmira Talley. They had six children that lived. I am not sure if there were some who died in their infancy. Aunt Maude was the oldest and outlived all of her siblings, her husband and all of her children. I preached her funeral this January assisted by my first cousin Kennith Mowery at Idabel, Oklahoma. She was 104 years of age. Aunt Maude married Mills Reed and they spent much of their life in the Hopewell community of Red River County, Texas. She was buried in the Denison Cemetery east of Idabel where several of our relatives are buried including my parents. Aunt Ruby was the second child of grand dad and grandmother Mowery. She married a Porter. Her grandson Raymond (Ray) Porter, Jr. has a web site on family history. Some of it is not complete and the battle site in which Mathias Mowery was taken prisoner was not in Arkansas, but Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). My dad William Oliver (Ollie) Mowery, Sr. was the third child; my mother was Dezdy Myrtle Wilson. My parents had seven children. The first two were boys that died in infancy. The next three were girls, Charleen, Mildred and Ollie Jean. Ollie Jean died about 12 years ago. The last two were boys: my brother William Luther (Bill), and myself. I only have my dad's initials. My name is W. O. (Dub) Mowery, Jr. Now back to the children of my grandparents: uncle Richard was the fourth child; uncle Bradley was the fifth child, and uncle Sidney was the sixth child. Aunt Cindy is the only sibling of grand dad Mowery that I knew. She and uncle Jim lived in the Hopewell community. They had one of the old fashion homes with a fox (dog) trot breezeway in the middle of it. They did not have any children. Her actual name Lucinda. She was named after one of her aunts. I did not know my great aunt Francis or whether her and her husband had any children. I knew that there was a connection between the Monkhouse family and the Mowery family. Well maybe I have rattled on too long. I would appreciate hearing from you and exchanging family data. I lived north of Mt. Pleasant, Texas for seven years until moving to Drumright, Oklahoma where I preach for the West Broadway church of Christ. My wife Charlotte and I are doing research on our respected families. I have come in contact with several descendants of Mathias and Malinda (Giddens) Mowery on the various genealogy web sites. The web site of Ray Porter's in which he is dedicating to his father is: http://hometown.aol.com/morphism/homepage.htm My sister Charleen Samuels lives at McAlester, Oklahoma. She also is doing extensive family research. We will be looking forward to hearing from you. Dub P. S. There will be a Mowery family reunion at my niece Jeanie Gail Chadwick's home in Idabel on the Saturday of May 13th. You would be welcome to join in with us. Also, there is usually a Mowery reunion at Jacksonville, Texas each summer.
