While helping my sister clean a closet this afternoon, I came across a book "A Pioneer Farmer's Daughter of Red River Valley" by Emma Guest Bourne. This book was published in 1850. I don't remember this book being discussed on this list before. It is not indexed and I have just begun to read it, but it has many names of which people on this list would be interested. John Martin Guest and wife Mary Katherine (Polly) Dickson Isaac Guest John Dickson Frances Garner & John Nance (Jack) Garner Tolbert Guest John Martin Jr. (Little Mart) Nancy Jane Anderson Dr. Clark William Stephenson Pastors: Stephenson, McKinzie (McKenzie), Whiteside, Duncan, Smalley, Graham William Humphrey Judge Bennett George Wright M. H. Wright J. W. Hardison Tom & Jim, you would be particularly interested in this excerpt: "It was at Old Bethel that we went to Sunday School and Church. Uncle Jimmy Watson was our Sunday School superintendent for twenty years and his dear wife, Aunt Anna, was teacher for the little folk these years." The beginning of this book tells of the settling of Jonesboro and the surrounding area. At the end of the book is the followinfg statement..."These are stories the author heard and experience as a child and in later years." Ginger Annona, TX
Ginger, I think you will find all the names you mentioned in this note are connected to the Detroit area. Also, I believe the Bethel Church that was mentioned was located at the Bethel Cemetery near Fulbright. The John Nance Garner birthplace marker is not far from this cemetery.
