I have Wortham's in RR Co, but I have been unable to connect to this one. Does anyone know anything about Joseph WORTHAM, wife was Lettie and there was at least one child, A son also named Joseph. Joseph Sr served in Co H, 18th Texas Infantry in the Civil War. I sent for several pension records and I included this one just because of the location and name. So far though, I have not been able to connect him to my Wortham line. Thanks, Jo Cox Arkansas Ozarks Researching the Wortham, Stinson, Crippens, Stewart and Roberts in RR Co
I just found Joseph in the 1880 census. He is listed as born in GA, 44 years old. Children were Emma age 4 b TX Mahala age 2 b TX Rufus age 1M b TX Joseph Jr must have been born after 1880. By the way, I have the LDS every name index for the 1880 census, if anyone wants a lookup, I will try to help. Jo, Arkansas Ozarks
I am not into genealogy, but I was born and raised in and around Red River County, and I knew a Joe Wortham family at Detroit many years ago. He was a shoe cobbler there for many years, and was a very good friend of my family. If I am not mistaken, he still has a daughter-in-law living there. If I remember right, he had a brother about his same age living there too. If my Dad were still alive, he would be 104 years old, and Mr. Wortham would have been about the same age. Sorry I am not much help, but this might give you something to work with. Thanks Sam, Joseph and his wife Lettie lived in the Manchester area. I don't know if that is the same area as Detriot or not. I appreciate the answer. Can you tell me in what part of the county I would find Caney Creek? I remember my Dad talking about fishing there when he was growing up. Jo Arkansas
Sorry, but Caney creek skips my mind at this time. Detroit would be Southwest of Manchester, however the kids from there attend school in Detroit at this time, so it is not too far away. Sorry I could not be more help. Jo, I just notice in the Concord Baptist Church minutes of 1859, there is a (appears as) Thom T? Worthan. Later I see it as Thomas Worthan, both times written my be librarian (clerk) of the Sunday School. Spelling is different and maybe not connection, but I thought I would throw it in. Hi Jim, Part of my Wortham line was Thomas Ivey Wortham. He died in 1879 at age 53 and is buried at English Cemetery. His brothers were John Fletcher, Robert J, George and David Buck Wortham, my GG Grandfather. Jo, I will keep a eye out in case I can connect this Worthan to your Wortham. Maybe with the age I can work on it. I will check the Concord minutes for the Ivey name. Do you know if John Ivey had a wife in 1859? The women's classes are also listed.
