Charlie Justis. He was born in RR County in 1910. His family lived in the Cherry Community. Most of his brothers and sisters were also born there. I am looking for any and all informtion I cn find on the family. Also my father in law's mother and dad were married there in 1907. Maud Bannings and Joseph Justis. Maud was raised by the CC Loggins family as her father died when she was about 2. They lived near the railroad track near where the Grant house is. We visted there a few year back and went to the cemetery and around the community with my father in law. It is a beautiful area, my father in law talked about Clarksville with love in his heart. He had only fond memories of the area. He passed away Jan. 2002 at 94 yrs. I just wonder if there are any photo's of the school in that community out there some where. Bettye
Bettye, My father was born in 1910. His sister died when she was 4 in 1912 and was the first Giddens buried at Stone's Chapel. My dad went to Hopewell around 1918 when his father "Marion Giddens" started teaching at Hopewell School. He and your Justis may have gone to school together. I will see what I can find out. We discussed the Cherry School a few weeks ago on this board, did you get in on that. My dad Robert "Wesley" Giddens passed away Oct 15, 2002. at the age of 92, but in the one room school, I bet they were in the same room. It is thought that the sister "Vivian Giddens" died of cholera that had struck the community. You mention the Grant house. Are you talking of the old one at Cherry. It burnt down about 2 months ago. There is no railroad track at Cherry, so maybe you are speaking of another house. Bettye, if you don't mind, we would like you last name also and area/city you live. It just make us all a little my interested in the one we are talking. However it is not a requirement and I understand if you had rather not.
