We had a neighbor when in town who, when asked how his cotton was doing, would answer "it's knee high to Mag." Of course, you had to know Mag. to relate to this...... Mag was his wife. Jim, do you remember how people would go to town on sat. and just sit in their car/truck and visit with people walking by. The city finally put up meters and that caused a lot of folks to stay home cause they couldn't afford the money it would cost to sit there. My brother, Bobby, and I would go to the show at the Avalon or Texan and stay there all day while our Gmother sat on the square. Gdaddy would be in the Odd Fellow lodge, over the Texan theater, playing dominoes all day. This was all that was necessary This of course meant he was somewhere in the area of the square. They could probably go to town and see his truck to find him. Once in Mesquite, some kids came over to see my young son, I seriously told them, "He went to town". They had a puzzled look on their face. Jim G p.s. Down Home is like "Down on the Farm" p.s.s.
