Thanks, Faith Riley PRESS RELEASE FROM FAITH RILEY OF SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS REGIONAL ARCHIVES SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS REGIONAL ARCHIVES MERGES WITH ARKANSAS HISTORY COMMISSION (This story also announces SARA's 3rd Annual Genealogy Fair PLEASE RUN ASAP OK TO RUN AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (SARA) in Washington, AR has merged with the Arkansas History Commission (AHC) which is the state archives located in Little Rock. Wendy Richter has succeeded Dr. John Ferguson as director of the AHC. The AHC is a division of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. SARA will remain in Washington at its present location. The SARA Foundation, Inc. (formerly Friends of SARA) Board of Directors will formally hand over SARA to the AHC during a ceremony at the Third Annual SARA Genealogy Fair on October 29 in the 1914 Schoolhouse at Old Washington Historic State Park. Dr. Louis Stubbs, long time board member from Sevier County, will host the ceremony. Invited speakers are Dr. John Ferguson; Mildred Smith, a founder; Mary Medearis, first SARA director; Wendy Richter; Richard Davies, Director of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism; and Greg Butts, Director of State Parks. In honor of this momentous occasion and in gratitude to all those who supported SARA throughout its 27-year history, the SARA Foundation, Inc. will cover all expenses for the genealogy fair. Lunch and workshops are all offered at no charge. All workshops will be conducted by staff members of the AHC. Here is the schedule: 10-11:20 Room One: "One Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Gleaning Information from Arkansas Photographs" by Lynn Ewbank and "Voices of the Dead: Extracting Genealogical Information from Arkansas Cemetery and Death Records" by April Goff. Does anyone have more info on the people in the following obit. I'm related to both Phillips and Holloway families around Clarksville. Lawton Constitution 7 Nov 2003 Shirley 'Kaye' Phillips Funeral for Shirley "Kaye" Phillips, 67, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Henry MaGee, Clarksville, Ark., officiating. Ms. Phillips died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at a local hospital. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born July 4, 1936, in Clarksville to Charles and Iola Wolverton Holloway. She grew up in Clarksville and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1953. She attended the University of the Ozarks and graduated from North Texas University in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in music. She married Don Phillips on June 3, 1956, in Clarksville and they moved to Lawton in 1957. They moved to Tulsa in 1961, and back to Lawton in 1962. She taught music at several elementary schools in Lawton, including Jefferson, Pecan Grove and Hoover, before retiring. She was a member of Lawton First Baptist Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Toni Phillips, Forth Worth, Texas; and two grandchildren: Brent and Brad Phillips, both of Forth Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary Phillips; and her brother, Loren Holloway.Friends may call from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
