Joan , who were some of your Lewises and Moors of Acworth I knew some of the Lewis and Moors when i was a young boy in Acworth'
HKeyser, my 7:00 p.m. email answers part of your question. Thanks for correcting my spelling to Acworth. That's what happens when I write without referencing notes...as I continue to do tonight. I just talked to my mom, Ann Moore Hammer, who is 81 and the family historian that we still have in our midst. She reminded me of the following Lewis and Moore family members: *Uncle Augustas (Gustie) Lewis and his wife, Willie; parents of Mickey (deceased--as youth), EmmaDelle (deceased recent years), and Dorothy Lewis Hancock (living in Conroe area) *Aunt Nola Lewis Whitten;married to Ronald Whitten; mother of Charlie; grandmother of Wanda Whitten Allen (deceased) and Charles *Aunt Caroline Lewis ? Moore(different Moore from my maternal grandfather, Charles Burton)--She married Harry Moore sometime after her first husband was gunned down in the front year by a former "suitor" of Caroline's--She is listed in the 1900 RR census as a widow, living with her father Winchester Dane Lewis--I cannot remember her children's names--I'll look that up. Winchester Dane and Charlotte Mitchell Lewis are buried in Briggins Cemetary and had other daughters who moved into Oklahoma: Nancy Jane and Mandy. Grandma's brother Charlie had sons Howard and John and a daughter,---Lewis Cook. Howard and his wife, Ted, lived in Oklahoma City, where they worked at Tinker AFB until retiring at Broken Bow. I think Howard still lives in Broken Bow although Ted died a few years ago. John and Cora lived in RR Co., I think, They had J.R.(county commissioner at one time) and Wilma Lewis (??can't recall married name). The daughter had children: Duane and ??Dale and Elaine. My maternal grandfather was Charles Burton Moore, son of James Burton and Georgie Ann Hooper Moore. He was born in Cass County, Tx., and is shown with his brother Will in the 1900 census in RR Co., working for Buck Clark. Mom tells the story that Grandpa had worked as a share cropper, perhaps for Clark. Grandpa did credit Buck Clark with stopping Grandpa's drinking as Clark gave him an ultimatum to stop drinking or lose his job. He and Grandma moved from RR after their daughter Mamie died of a quick killing malaria around 1926, I believe. Grandpa Moore had many other brothers and sisters: James Dempsey, Ruben, Mattie, Meggie, Rosa, Henry, Annie, Joe, and Bell. Henry, Joe, and Bell also lived and died in Broken Bow. I have some pictures from 1920sof the Cold Spring School with none of the children identified if anyone needs this scanned and sent for records. Grandma Moore went to Greenwood Church. Bet you're sorry you asked after receiving an unabridged epistle!! Joan Elaine P. S. Mom said that she remembers hearing that Grandpa Lewis's stories of the "War of Rebellion" were different from others' of RR Co. and that he often mused over the war stories told around the square in Clarksville. Also, after acquiring a car for transportation, Aunt Nola and Aunt Caroline would go to town every Saturday as was the custom of rural life of the times. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 01, 2005 6:43 PM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Old Soldier > Joan , who were some of your Lewises and Moors of Acworth I knew some of > the > Lewis and Moors when i was a young boy in Acworth' > > > > > ==== TXREDRIV Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree.
