    1. [TXREDRIV] The Clasrksville Square Project
    2. Jim Giddens
    3. Here is a e-mail I received as a high school group from one of my Clarksville classmates in the 50s. There will be a dedication for the "new" square this Saturday morning at 9 a.m., kicking off the Fall Bazaar, Oct 6th. I will be there and hope to see some of you guys. (Zack is Helen's grandson). As you will read, they are both very excited about the new square appearance. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Thursday, October 04, 2007 6:23 AM Subject: The Square Project Good Morning, All, Well, Zach has delivered the ultimate and final word on the newly redone square. It is in his 7 year old words, "COOL." Would you believe that I stayed on the square most of the day watching the final touches being applied? I went to town 5 times and would sit and talk and watch the progress. There were so many people in town and so much activity going on that it looked like the square use to when we were all growing up. No parking places and cars circling the square constantly! One of the ladies that owns a business on the square said that she couldn't stand to stay in her store and run the business so she kept it closed most of the day because she wanted to be outside where all the action was going on. Her husband had been calling her all day, and when he finally got hold of her he wasn't too happy with her. The square is really going to be lovely and beautiful. Big maple trees have been planted all around the area, antique looking street lamps have been installed, Louisiana iris have been planted around the base of the Confederate soldier, huge round containers that are filled with bright yellow fall mums are sitting throughout, and Knock-out roses, decorative grass, and shrubs have also been planted. An underground sprinkler system was laid over a two day period, and most of the sod was laid yesterday. The sod came from a sod farm at Lydia near Avery. We had to go back last night for one last look to see the lights come on. It is such a transformation that it is almost a magical place to be at night. I think it will be even prettier at Christmas with Christmas lights in all the trees. We have Zach staying with us as Sunni and Donny have gone to M.D. Anderson for her checkup. He wanted to go down there after we picked him up from school then we could hardly get him away. We had to come home and do homework, or we probably would have stayed. Then when we got the homework done and supper over, we had to go back for one last visit. He is just as excited about it as we all are. I told our mayor, Ann Kelty Rushing, last night that we needed to have a "Saturday Night on the Square" celebration soon with a band and dancing. She agreed! Wish all of you transplanted Clarksvillians could see it. Can you tell how proud I am of it?
