    3. (more rambling, not genealogy, delete if not interested) Mary of DeKalb, After seeing the name "DeKalb" 3 or 4 times, I can not resist rambling a little. I relived regular in my mind, back in the fall of 1958 when Clarksville Tigers played DeKalb in football in Clarksville. I was a senior starter for the Tigers. Final score DeKalb 22 Clarksville 18. This was a tough lose with DeKalb scoring the winning points on 4th down and goal from our two yard line. Con Ashley(spell?) scored the two yard touchdown with a quick pitch out around their left end. DeKalb was suppose to run over us and we were behind 16 to 0 after the first quarter of the game. We had scored the go ahead touchdown with about 2 minutes left in the game to 18-16. We where so excited. It had been predicted that we would be beat bad. Then disaster struck by DeKalb getting a 80 yard pass play down to our 8 yard line with Jerry Ward making the tackle. Then after 4th down, it was over. It is a fact that the game should have been over about one minutes before DeKalb scored. James E, of Clarksville was running the game clock, but got so excited he forgot to run the clock toward the end of the game. I did not realize from the field as a player that the clock was not running (we were all excited) but I clearly remember looking over to the side line during this time and seeing one of our coaches, R.G. Burris looking up at the press box and passionately giving the "Run the Clock" sign (winding your arm like a clock) to the time keeper. Guess the time keeper was not looking at him. James E was so distraught that he never ran the clock again for a game. I felt sorry for him. Back in my school days, Clarksville Tigers and the DeKalb Bears were great rivals. Maybe that has changed today due to change in districts etc. I did get pleasure attending a game with the Tigers beating DeKalb at home about 3 or 4 years ago. It was a most exciting game also. I still have my ticket and even wrote a letter to the Editor of the Times about what I have just rambled about. It was printed in the Times. I felt a little awkward in the 1970s when we lived in Avery and my son played pee-wee football for a team in DeKalb (Avery does not play football). I even wound up being asked to be a assistant coach for the team and I did. I was also interesting when we played a Clarksville team and a old team mate of mine, Bill Petty, was coaching the Clarksville team. I did enjoy making friends with the guys from DeKalb and learned they did not have horns from they head.
