Yes, perhaps my experience will help. My ggfather and children were on a census but ten years later had disappeared, I found him by reading the entire census record and discovered a GW Bates had the same children's name as my ggfather, GWButts, so can assume the census taker wrote down the wrong name. Apparently my ggfather could not read nor write because some of the land records was signed with an "X", so he wouldn't have been aware of the mistake; and may not have been very eager to help. Thanks so much Beverly, I remember making notes of the Thoms graves at Hopewell but I did not know of the connection. I will probably slip your point into my presentation. "Presentation", that sounds like a big word for a old boy just "rambling" on in person. I keep turning up new (old) information and I still have not made me an outline, I better get that done to help me to not skip over main points and to be able to conserve time. I just got my "Index to Burial, Cemetery and Death Records in Red River County, Texas" today, and does not have a listing for Abraham Wagley. Hi, Does anyone have burial records for an Abraham Wagley in RR county? I am trying to sort the family out, talking to another person, and I think we may have the same person, just not sure. He was in the 1870 RR census with wife Catherine, and daughter Mary. Abraham was born about 1825 and not sure when he died. If we can find something, it surely would help. Thank you all for your time. Peggy
Genealogy group: I have been asked to a Mowery reunion in Idabel, Ok this Saturday (9th). My GG GF's sister, Malinda Giddens married Mathias Mowery in the early 1800s. I have been asked to give my presentation on my Giddens connection to the Mowerys in the a.m. and in the afternoon to give my presentation on Lt. J.R. Giddens that died in the Indian battle in Jan 1865 as a Confederate soldier assigned to the Texas Indian Frontier. Lt Giddens was a brother of Malinda. It is interesting that Mathias & Malinda named one of there sons, James Richard (Mowery), same given name as Lt. Giddens, but Lt Giddens was still a boy when the other J.R. was born. I did give the Lt Giddens and some information on the forts he was connected with to the Paris, Son of the Confederate meeting this past Monday night. I feel a little awkward being asked to speak, but I am honored for sure to be asked. The reunion will be at the Choctaw Community Center. I will be back in Paris by 6 for a birthday party for my only great grandchild. Addie will be 4. It is great that any child gets to know their great grandparent. I hope to put more memories in her head as she grows up, but we never know how much longer that will be. Say a few words for me for Saturday. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx p.s. Lt Giddens was born in 1829 and J.R. Mowery was born either in 1831 or 1839. My plot is smeared at the date, so I will have to check that out. Also, J.R. Mowery is buried at Concord (Giddens) Cemetery. I will need to check on where Malinda was buried. I think she remarried in Lamar County after Mathias died.
