I have found no reference to this Jim Roberts in my other two family lines of Mitchells or Stringers. I am connected to the Mowery and Monkhouse both. This is my understanding of the line. Please correct me if I am wrong and I would love to know what more you know of the Florence Roberts family....my connection is that her son Gene Monkhouse was my great Uncle and Aunt Audrey doesnt remember so well. Charles (CE Monkhouse) married Frances E Mowery and their son Corley Monkhouse married Florence Roberts. Florence had a brother Jake Roberts that Married Gracie Satcher.... now back to Frances Mowery Monkhouse.......she had a sister Lucinda Mowery that Married Jim Roberts......dont know if all of these Roberts are related but I bet they are. Frances and brother Jake lived down at hopwell not far from my great uncle and aunt Gene and Audrey Monkhouse. I just dont have any information on Frances and Jake to connect them to Jim. Another interesting thing is that Corley Monkhouse's uncle was Robert Monkhouse that married Susie Thoms/Mowery. Frances Mowery that married Charles (Corley father) Monkhouse father was James Mowery and he was married to Susan Thoms first then she married Charles's brother Robert Monkhouse. Talk about confusing............it can happen. In one census, my ggfather and children were listed, but ten years later they had disappeared. I found them by chance reading the entire census and finding GW Bates with my ggfather's children. Undoubtedly, the census taker wrote out GW Bates rather than GW Butts, my ggfather, who could not read nor write as many of his earlier documents were signed with an"X"; later he learned to write his name as it appears on some later documents. People were known to change their names if they were having trouble with the law. Some just did not like their name. We had a Fudge surname changed to Forbis. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joyce A King To: txredriv@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2007 9:34 AM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Census Records Question A lady and I have connected our gr grandparents through a DNA project, however, through years of searching and every different spelling of their names, we have never found them on a census record anywhere--I even hired a professional to do the census check and he couldn't find anything - so, my question is, why would there be people that never show up on a census record? We don't actually get a DNA sample from an ancestor, however, many of the folks that have had their DNA test done, know who their ancestors were for many generations. I have about 16 folks that match my brother's DNA - three of them are very close and one person matches all 37 DNA markers. Unfortunately, the person that has the 37 marker match is like me and only has info back to her gr grandfather and not much on him. The more people that get tested the better the odds. Hopefully, someday we'll figure it out - if not, we've tried everything we can. LOL!! We undoubtedly have the same great grandparents!!! My husband's great grandparents never show up - I think they are in the smeared unreadable lines, they didn't answer the door, the census taker couldn't understand them and called them the Joneses, they moved every time there was a census and they were on the road. They were invisible! ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Joyce: A DNA match shows that the two of you have a common ancestor, BUT it does not tell you where that match is. It may very well be before the 1850 when all names of a famnily were listed, or several generation further back. But you can bet the farm there is a connection somewhere. I don't thing this is my James Roberts. Mine was born 1875 that would have made him 15 years old at the time of marriage. Really don't think so. I have another Jim, but he wasn't born till 1925. The only documented info I have was that my gr grandfather Lewis W. Hensley married Nancy Helen Groves in Red River County in 1876 he left or disappeared shortly after my grandfather's birth in 1877 and Nancy Helen remarried in December, 1879 to William Cruse. According to some info on my grandfather, William Martin Hensley, his father was born in KY. But I'm not sure this is correct. My brother's DNA matched the DNA of the brother of a lady in South Carolina and we have been trying to connect then. We had a 37 marker match, so we are closely matched. Her gr grandfather was William H. Hensley and he married Hannah Barton. She thinks he was born in GA in 1844 but no definite proof. He had two sons, William and Robert. She was told that he left to go fight Indians and took his son William with him and Robert stayed with his mother- he was never heard from again that we know of. Due to the 37 marker match that our brothers had, we think our gr grandfathers were either brothers or at least first cousins. Would really appreciate any help. Joyce, it makes a difference if you are talking about a maternal or paternal DNA print match. The paternal DNA print test is on the Y-Chromosome which is unique to the male and is passed from father to son generation after generation and changes rarely, like on the average one-marker every 500-years as such is very useful in identifying familial kinships going back through the years. If you cannot find your most recent common ancestor back to 1850 it becomes much more difficult, if not impossible beyond that. If you have not used the message boards in genealogy.com, you may try that. I have found numerous irregularities with census records which compounds the problems when searching census records. I found one ancestor in RRC where the first name was listed as the last name in the 1860 USC. I found it only by doing a page by page search of the census. If it is a materal match this is another issue. I have yet to find a common ancestor with 20-25 mtDNA print matches with my mother's DNA print withother families. I have not gotten off the ground with this type of match research. Regards, H. Has anyone else had this problem? Were the census records so inaccurate that this could happen? Anyone have any opinions on this?

Florence was b. 1897 in TX. The 1900 RR census has Florence's parents as John and Sallie, John b. June 1860 in MO, Sallie b.Mar 1864 in Indiana. John has died after the birth of Lois Alma (12-8-1903) and before the 1910 census. 1900 census Jim Roberts father was from Illinois, his mother from Mo but 1920 census has both from MO. I have not located Jim and Lucinda on a 1910 census. steve harris <steveharris1@hotmail.com> wrote: too hot to get out is right I see in 1880, Hunt Co TX a Roberts family (8 children) with a James born 1867 and sister Florence born 1880. Joyce Tell us all about them - maybe one of us knows the family or can find them. It's too hot to play outside today! Pam --lady and I have connected our gr grandparents through a DNA project, however, through years of searching and every different spelling of their names, we have never found them on a census record anywhere--

Hi Donna and Jo: What I have on Jim Roberts isn't much and what I have is confusing, guess this is a family I need to concentrate on. Jim Roberts married Lucinda Mowery 1-9-1890 in Red River, the marriage license gives his name as J.M. Roberts. Jim and Lucinda only had one child, a daughter who died at birth 11/2/1890. On the 1900 census Jim gives his birth date as Nov 1867. Jim died May 16, 1947, he is buried at Hopewell. In the Dale's cemetery records it has James P. Roberts b. Sept 1, 1864. The only other Roberts I have are Florence Roberts and her family. Florence married Corely Monkhouse. Not sure if Jim and Florence are relate. My husband's great grandparents never show up - I think they are in the smeared unreadable lines, they didn't answer the door, the census taker couldn't understand them and called them the Joneses, they moved every time there was a census and they were on the road. They were invisible! To make up for it I do have 2 great uncles that are counted twice in 1900 - once at home and once on the relatives farm where they were working. Try working backwards - death/cemetery records, land records, marriage, newspapers, church records, etc. Good luck. Pam A lady and I have connected our gr grandparents through a DNA project, however, through years of searching and every different spelling of their names, we have never found them on a census record anywhere--I even hired a professional to do the census check and he couldn't find anything - so, my question is, why would there be people that never show up on a census record? Has anyone else had this problem? Were the census records so inaccurate that this could happen? Anyone have any opinions on this?
