I have printed out the directions from the GenWeb page, I guess I should clarify my question. If I start at the Clarksville Cemetery, in what order should I go to the other cemeteries that I would like to see so that I won't be wasting a lot of time and gas crossing the county. The cemeteries that I would like to visit again are:Clarksville CemeteryOld Shamrock CemeteryLone Star CemeteryBluffCemeteryDetroit CemeteryBridget Stiverson> From: black@1starnet.com> To: txredriv@rootsweb.com> Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2007 12:03:42 -0500> Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Directions to Cemeteries> > Exact directions to all the cemeteries in Red River County are on the > Red River County GenWeb page. This is a copy and paste from my high school e-mail group. Though it interesting. Jim G We went down to the Red River this afternoon, and it is starting to look like an ocean. Lots of people standing on the banks and taking pictures and some were fishing too. I heard in town this afternoon that Pecan Point is under water. I think that is the area where the river is about to take the Farm to Market road completely out. Some of the ladies told me that it was announced on the 10:00 morning KCAR news.
Cynthia, Since you seem to have information on Red River would you happen to know if there were any newspaper at the time of T.J. & Sarah Tompkins death in 1895 & 96. I know it was a long time ago but it does not seem like it. I was hoping that maybe there were obit for them in the local paper. I am from a small town in Illinois and they have great obits as most small town seem to have. Liberty is about 3 miles south of Hwy 82 just east of Detroit. The road is paved most of the way and has rocks on the rest of it. When I was there there were high weeds growing in the middle of the road. Don't try it unless you have a truck or SUV. The cemetery is well cared for and landscaped. There are about 100 graves. I took about 20 pictures, but unfortunately yours are not among them. On record in the county clerk's office is a promise from a man (for the life of me I can't remember his name) who stated that he and his intended were members of Wavell's Colony and that there was not a minister or other official person to perform a wedding, but that he promised to legally marry the woman when an official became available. If he failed to marry the woman, he promised to pay her $5,000. That was a whole bunch of money in the late 1820s, when the man wrote the promise. My guess is, the man and the woman took up abode as husband and wife, until such time as an official marriage took place. I think there were other marriage bonds, but I can't recall details. I recall seeing mention of a similar practice in early Nacogdoches. Perhaps in one of Jack Jackson's books. Is there a Hardin marriage listed with any spouse in any years? Dianne Hardin in Ca. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hello, I am looking for a marriage that may have taken place between my great grand parents: John H. Hardin and Roxcina P. Watson. It may have been later in 1853 or sometime in 1854? John and Roxcina lived in Grayson county during at least 1854 through1860. John's first son, John William was born at old Preston in Grayson county on Jan 1,1855.. Dianne Hardin in California. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Seeing the "Hardin-Watson" notation, I just must put in a tib-bit of info that may well not have a connection. My mother was a Watson, she grew up at Hopewell Community in Red River County. I remember the name at Hopewell very well from my boyhood days of Haskell Hardin, but I did not actually know him. I have the newspaper obit of Haskell D. Hardin of Bagwell, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2004. I have a picture that was in my parents old picture box. I was probably taken in the 1940 of early 1950s. Haskell is showing off his twin (black) calves. A Model-A pickup is in the background. I feel fairly certain that the picture is taken at the gate to my grandparents (Watson) farm. I remember my dad saying that Haskell was sure proud of those twin calves. There are a least 3 sets (and probably more in RR Co) of Watson families. If I remember correctly, my Watson line came to Red River C from Alabama around 1870, So, this is probably not your Watson but maybe interesting anyway. The obit says Haskell Hardin was born Oct 19, 1911 in Red River County to Amos & Rosie Poteet Hardin. Haskell at obit time had 2 daughters (married) living in Bagwell. Around the time Haskell died, I had put the picture of Haskell and the calves in the Clarksville Times.
