All of the information was from RRR. I just went by the index and read until I found the Lyons person on that page. Sometimes I get crosseyed trying to find the single name on the page, hehe. Hi Nina, I got the information out of Red River Recollections. It is a book put together by the Red River County Historical Society. It was put together in 1986 and reprinted in 1997. There are "articles" put together by family members on their family and also some short histories on communities and certain events/locations. The information on the grocery store was from a write up on the Shadid family. The other information was from different family write ups and one was from a lodge history. I can send you the articles if you would like. It just might take me a few days to get them together. Jim, sometime when you are in the area, take Hgy. 100 out of Honey Grove going North. Down by the Red River, you will come to Riverby. Watch on your left at the Mark Buster operation. Cattle, San Augustan grass sod, and just too much to mention. Mark is the Circle C of Lamar County. Nina, Yes,I sure do remember Ivy Ewing. He was, in my opinion, the best caretaker "The Lake" ever had.He kept everything mowed ,clean, and policed the area to make sure all the rules were kept. Crystal Lake was a great place to hang out and he made it even better. I told a storey to the list about an accident I had as a child at the lake a couple of years ago and your GMother's sister played a big part in it. I was playing behind the dam,by the water fall, slipped, fell on an old fender, someone had discarded there and cut my rear end. My grandmother took me to the "Lake Keeper's House" for first aid. Well, your Great Aunt had this ole bashful country boy drop his pants "and drawers" and lie across her lap "on the front porch/gallery" while she poured that "miracle medicament" coal oil on my ailing posterior......It wasn't even sore the next day! and I didn't have to go and have Dr. Payne give me a tetanus shot. Yes, Nina I do remember your Grandmother's sister. She saved my life :) Have a great day, Tom Heath, TX Watson,Cornett,Becknell,Rogers,Sturch,Fuller >From: NFLTARVER@aol.com >Reply-To: TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com >To: TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Sam & Tom ? plus rambling >Date: Sun, 16 Mar 2003 11:34:31 EST > >Tom do you remember a man that was a caretaker at Crystal Lake by the name >of >Ivy Ewing? Hi Drew, Thank you for the info. Where did you find the info about Otis Lyons being in partnership with John Shadid and T. F. McCoy in the grocery store. Dad had talked about someone in the family being in partnership in a grocery store but was never clear about who it was. Also the Nina Anne Coffman Lyons was married to Abner R. Lyons which was a brother to Lemuel A. Lyons(my great grandfather). Dad always told me that I was named after his great aunt Nina and a girlfriend. He never said any more about the girlfriend so I only know that my middle name Faye is supposed to come from a girlfriend. Also, the Cora Belle(Campbell) Wright could possibly be my insurance agent here in Duncanville. Small world. I will get in touch with her tomorrow and find out about this. Thanks, Nina

Hi Larry, Who are some of your Lyons family. Where did they come from. How long were they in Red River Co.? I don't mind that you sent it to the list. Nina Lyons Tarver Duncanville, Tx
JimmyG, you are right, I am at Texoma with my boat sitting about 12 feet away. What a great day God made for us today!! I have always loved the water. Some of my earliest memories are of going to Crystal Lake ,just south of Annona. Before we went to the lake my brother,Bobby, and I would go to the cowshed and dig for grub worms. It seemed like they were more plentiful there than another place. We would then go by John Shadid's on the north side of town, near where Billy Petty lived, to get minnows. That was if we had a little money. Usually we would got to a few of the pools/tanks and seine them to get our minnows. Now, I have never liked snakes and it seemed like we always had snakes in the seine when it was walked out the end of the .pool/tank. I was always glad that my brother was taller than me, since he was four years older, and he had to walk in the pool/tank pulling the seine while my uncle Lloyd Cornett would pull the other end. I waited on high ground until they got to the edge of the water ,I would then get ready to catch the minnows before they got out of the seine and back into th! e water. We would then go to Crystal Lake, use one of the flat bottom, wooden boats and bait the trout line that we always had on the south side of the lake. We would continue to bait and run the line all day. We always caught a lot of fish. The best part of the day was when we got home. Mama would get the grease hot while we cleaned the fish. Boy, what a feast we would have, fresh fish, French fries and sliced tomatoes. My Granddad, Monroe Cornett, was a charter member of the Crystal Lake Club and I have maintained my membership there so that our family has had membership there since the lake was built over 90 years ago. There have been a few changes made at the lake since I was a kid,... but not many. What good memories!!!! Sharon, It would be interesting to see if it was the church in Clarksville or the one in Madras. Maple Springs was the name of the original settlement in the Bogata area. According to RRR, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was organized in Bogata in Sept , 1877 my Rev. Charles Manton. They first worshipped in the little building which Mr Wm. Humphrey built in the park area. Now I look across to page 25 and it say the Bogata Cemetery was first known as Maple Springs Cemetery. In 1880a Bogata post office was established at the Maple Springs community, and the name of the town and cemetery were changed. William Humphrey came in 1826 as a 14 year old boy, returned to Tn & Al but in 1836 he came back to settle permanently, bringing his family. etc etc. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Black" <black@1starnet.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2003 2:51 PM Subject: [TXREDRIV] Shiloh Church > Hi Jim, > Thought this might interest you. Thanks for missing me Jim, but I have still been having trouble with those stones, and finally got the all clear signal this past Monday, then had to put my wife in the Hospital the next day with her heart.
