    3. Has anyone tried Mary Holloway in Detroit? Her Father in law was Post Master in Detroit more than 50 Years ago. She was on the list, may still be. Has the Craft Store in Detroit, and is very wise about Red River County. 2. Jim Giddens
    3. This 1900 RR Co census on the web-site is like a potato chip to me, I just can not look at one. I have to look at another, then another , then another. I am seeing more and more names mentioned on this board. Such as Slate, Diseker, Hemmingway, Billingsly, Pace, Becknell,Tally, Talley, Clark, Dale, Cornett, Blassingame, Piepholl, Poteete, Mehaffey, Fowler, Barnett & Crabtree, just to mention some I have jotted down. I have scanned through only precinct 6,7,8, and the 2nd half of 5. I have found two Slate men. However their parents were not born in the same states, so they must not be brothers. The listing of their children (babies) with their ages is most interesting because some of them I remember as grown men when I was a boy. Another interesting point, is see who was living in the house hold with the head of the house, such as in-laws, mothers, step-children, hirelings, boarders, servants etc. Thanks again to Annette and to Cynthia that makes this all possible. 3. Darla, Your husband is correct. Clifton married Annette (Townes), 20 years younger than her sister Sue, (my wife). Clifton is a great guy and we visit often. Yes Laura Ann Giddens Jordan is a cosmetologist according to her, I thought she was a beautician. She works here in Paris. Sue & I live only about 1/2 mile from them her and her family here in Paris, actually Reno. I knew that Rexene & Christine had remarried after their husbands died. I remember when Dale Storey first told me of a knot in leg. He did not know it was cancer at that time. He had been going to Baylor in Dallas for back surgery. He was died less than a year later. I could go on more, but I may e-mail that directly to you so as not to clog up the board with what may not be of interest to anyone but you and me. 3. Darla: Welcome to the best little list on the internet!!! This list is different from most genealogy lists in that ,as Jim said, we do discuss more than pure genealogy. We try to mix in history, humor, customs and personal experiences, all related to Red River County. In the stories we try to mention people and places in all our "Rambling". There are several people whom we consider story tellers; however, everyone seems to share in a very laid back "Red River County" manner. We have been known to laugh together and cry together. The list is much like a big family with a lot love being shared......WELCOME!!!!! 3. I don't have time to cover it now, but I see so many names in Pct 7 in the 1900 census that I see on this board. Besides Giddens, Watson, Manning and Day, I see Roberts, Sallie Bledsoe and son James R Crain and daughter Berdie Cragg, then James T Pace & wife Lucy & children Virgle, Azor & Elmer, Charley Whitten & wife Anna and children Tom, Emry, Anna & Levens, Then there is Mary Bledsoe daughter, living with her mother and father Wm Martin Barnett and Belle Giddens Barnett, This is strange but I see George C Giddens that has a step son George C Gibbons living with him. Also a George Pace, then a Mary Fowler with a grand daughter Corene Giddens living with her (a widow). Then James T Horn with children Lorenzo & Etter. Ok, good night folks. Sleep tight. 3. Darla, I have been told I have a good memory but I know that it is slipping some. Actually, I just have too much too remember at my age of 61. I have so many great memories and then some that are not so great. I am sadden to hear about Cody. I would have went to his funeral but I don't remember hearing about it. My father died Oct 15 and I took some time off after that so I may have been out of town. The only Davidson's I can remember at this time is Red. I remember well the day he was shot and killed in the Medford parking lot. I was gone to the bank in Clarksville that afternoon of the shooting, so it must have been on a Wednesday. My wife Sue was at the pharmacy and ever one was buzzing when I got back to town. Seem now I am thinking Red had a sister or two. Were they Rexene Storey and Christine Watson. Rexene worked for us at the pharmacy. Her husband died of cancer while we were there. We rented their house in Avery when we first went to Avery, until they moved back to Avery. Christine Watson's husband, J.B., also died of cancer. My mother was a Watson so J.B. was about a 2nd cousin to my mother. Their fathers Elzie & Jesse Watson were double cousins. Maybe I will remember you husband David as time goes on. Was it Cheryl are Laura that he remembers, or both. Cheryl was had just finished Jr Hi in 1978 when we left Avery and Laura has just finished High School. Well I had better cut my rambling. 2. Thanks Jim for the kind letter on the 1900 Red River Census. I felt there was so much useful information in it that would help fellow researchers as it had me. I had meant to have it finished by now but had a few diversions along the way. My mother was very ill and lived with us and last year she died and next thing I knew I had breast cancer. I am doing very well now and will someday finish the census. I am so glad that you have found your family. It does give you a feel for them and to also be able to look at who lived near them. You also get to solve some of the questions you had about them. I also have a great husband who is a Mauldin, McDowell and Cherry descendant who kept encouraging me to do it. Lots of quarters at the library for microfilm copies and a membership to Ancestry.com came from Donald. So far it takes up two huge notebooks of photocopies and not through yet. Betsy Lemaster from CA also sent a CD and that was very helpful. Hopefully we will make the Mauldin reunion this year and maybe we'll get to meet you. The Red River group is the best on the Web if you ask me. Annette Cherry Baytown, TX. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txredriv/

    3. Hi Darla, Welcome to a friendly, helpful board. I was raised in Clarksville and graduated from CHS in 1959. but was gone after that for many years. I owned a pharmacy in Avery in the 1970s. There was a Cody Holloway that worked at Medford's Store. Is he one of yours. I think he still lives there. I went to Mesquite in 1978 and my wife and I moved back to Paris in 1995. It is great to have someone that actually lives in Clarksville on this board. You will find I "ramble" quite a bit, but I try to fill it with names, places and events that relate to Red River County, hoping that something may be a tidbit that will spark a memory in someone. Cody Holloway use to come into my pharmacy in Avery at least twice a day for a coffee break. I never met a man that was sweeter and as kind as Cody. Would you by chance be related to Dr Campbell of Paris? Jim Giddens Paris, Rx p.s. If you don't get a reply for a question, that will mean no body knows. ----- Original Message ----- From: <HORSEnAROUND247@aol.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 21, 2003 8:48 PM Subject: [TXREDRIV] New to list > Hello, I'm new to this list.
