I ran across this in some news articles today. I thought it was interesting and would share it with everyone. It shows some differences in cultures. Big Money for Final Resting Place Thu Apr 10, 9:59 AM ET BEIJING (Reuters) - Sprawling graveyards have become the latest token of wealth and influence for Chinese, after premium homes and luxury cars, with a healthy 14-year-old youth boasting his own tomb, a newspaper reported on Thursday. The teenager's grave, choice white marble, was near Tianjin, about three hours' drive from Beijing, the Guangzhou Daily said. Beside the tomb were graves for five of his family, just two of whom are dead, and the cost of the luxury complex was estimated at more than 300,000 yuan ($36,240), it said. One slot was for the teenager's future wife, it added. The Chinese tradition of burying the dead was considered "feudalist" and banned in 1954 by the Communist Party, which then adopted cremation in a bid to save shrinking arable land. But sleek graveyards have managed to find their way back over 20 years of market-oriented reforms with a rising middle-class craving for social prestige. Thanks, Drew Slate Fort Worth, Tx
Though I have ties to Paris with surnames of Goessman and Bransford, Highberger, McShane. I don't recognize these. (If anyone has information on the above surnames please respond.) This is a generous offering and will no doubt benefit some researcher. I wish more people would follow your example. Paris News (Friday) Alpha Patterson Lewis, 101, of Detroit died April 6 2003. Born in Post Oak 1902 to John & Stella Johns Patterson. She married Paul D Lewis in 1917 in Post Oak. He died in 1984. She is survived by 4 children and their spouses, all of Detroit. I know nothing of this lady, but her age got my attention and respect. Post Oak is in northeast Lamar County. Maybe some of you know this family. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx
Hello all, Since the list has been pretty quiet here lately, I thought I would let everyone know of a website that I have come across. I was researching my Plumlee family in Parker Co., Tx and got a reply on a message from a lady named Ashley. She said she had some deeds for two Plumlee men in Parker Co. I emailed her and she produced the names and offered them to me if I wanted them. She was going to sell them to me for what she paid, which was the standard price from a courthouse, $15. These are originals also. She mentioned she had her own website and I should go check it out. I did and I think it is a wonderful site for researchers. She says it isn't finished yet, and she is still working on getting everything indexed. The site is http://www.surnameheirlooms.com/index.html Take a look and see what you can find. Read the section called Our History, her favorite memory is awesome. Thanks, Drew Slate Fort Worth, Tx

I guess maybe there are a lot of Cooper names out there. Two houses up the street in Clarksville from my home as a teen was Nowlin Cooper and his family. He had 3 or 4 sons and 3 daughters. Glenda Cooper was a class mate of mine and is in my class e-mail group. I can ask her if she know and of her family genealogy. Glenda works for NASA in Houston. The Coopers were the first people on Rose Hill (West College Ave) to get a T.V. Jim Giddens p.s. you will find I am a rambler, but I try to contain it to RR Co events, places & people, and memories of the county. Linda, A tidbit of info: I went to Clarksville High School with a Betty Broomfield. She was a sophomore when I was a senior in 1959. Seems I recall seeing her in recent years at some event in Clarksville. If you would like for me to see what I can find out about her family, I will. My area phone book shows 4 Broomfield homes. Bobby in Avery, Daniel & Ginger in Blossom, M.H. in Paris, and R.L. in RRCo., I see no Brumfield. Are your Mabry connections in RRCo. The freshman class had a Jo Lane Mabry. I have seen her twice in the past years. She and her husband live across the Red River in Ok. The sophomore class had a Donald Mabrey. The spelling is probably a typo because I think they are siblings. I see several Mabry names in the area phone book, one is Donald R Mabry of Clarksville. By the way, Welcome to you of Tallahassee, FL. I can not resist the memory of a fine song in my teen years, "My Tallahassee Lassie, Down in F.L.A". Can anyone tell me who sang that song. I can't pull it out, but it had a great beat. I know many of you are too young to remember the song. Hi Linda, I will look up the names in Red River Recollections for you tonight, unless someone does it first. My question to you comes about the Cooper family. Do you know of a Mettie Cooper? My GGrandfather Isaac "Ike" J. Wallace married here in Hopkins Co. This was his second marriage. I haven't really looked to hard for her, but I would like to find out if they had any children. I can't find out anything on Issac J. Wallace. He left Red River County to find work after my ggrandmother Nora Love died. The three children were left with Samuel Walker Love, my gggrandfather in Bagwell. There was a Mettie Wallace buried in SE Red River Co., I believe. I just noticed it going through the Dales book at the Clarksville Library.
