    1. [TXREDRIV] RR Co tour (rambling)(not genealogy)
    2. Jim Giddens
    3. Today Tom (Watson, to the new members) and I had another of our whirl wind tours of parts of Red River County covering a lot of ground. We went from Paris east on US 82 to Annona, 44 south to Crystal lake, drove thru Kickapoo Ranch and back to the Russell Cemetery. Back to Annona and on to Avery. (Lot of good memories of this area) Made a stop at he locate of my old pharmacy in Avery and viewed the new Gene Weaver Gym. Then FM 1701 back to 44. Then north on FM 44 (crosses 82 and continued north on 44 to the English Road (FM 114). Then north a mile or 2 up 1158 and went west on CR 1275 past the old place of my dad Aunt Flora Thompson and on to Concord (Giddens) Cemetery for a stop, then on to Madras on 1700 and went north on CR 3202 for a stop at Old Shiloh Cemetery and then continued past Free Hope Cemetery with the neat bell over the gate.. Then back to Clarksville for a great chicken fried stake at the Main Street Cafe (former Ted & Beth's). Then toward Bagwell for a stop at Old Shamrock Cemetery and visited with Curtis Bachman, (pronounced Beckman by me all my life). His uncle Henry Bachman ran the Mobil Station on west Main when I was a teen. Then we were at Bagwell and took CR 2106 back to US 82 passing the old Robbinsville Cemetery that is now only a pasture with a couple of plain concrete marker bases above the ground (no markers). Now our last stop was the Becknell Cemetery. We found a open gate and Tom drove his 4 wheeler Lexus across the pasture (rough and weedy) right up to the Becknell State Marker. It saved us from climbing over the fence and walking 100 yards. The country side was beautiful and the weather was great. It is easy to understand by Davie Crockett said, "This is the land of milk and honey". This is the high lights and short version of the tour, there are other details. It was also like going back in time when we were standing under some of the huge oak trees that are around 300 years old, knowing our ancestors buried there loved one under these same tree up to and over 150 years ago. The two of us have the same gg grandfather Charlie Hurst Watson buried in Roaring Springs Cemetery near Matador in west Texas. C.H.W's father is James Watson buried at White Rock Cemetery in Red River Co. Tom's grandfather & my grandfathers were double cousins. Watson brothers married Horn(e) Sisters. More from Tom later but I just had to jump in on this. In fact Tom is on the way to my home now and we are going to visit Clarksville. He will contact you later. 3. Yes, Welcome new members. It has been scary quiet in recent days/weeks. A little spooky. Seems every since the board was down for a couple of days, it has been quiet. I think everyone is waiting for someone else to see if the board is working. I usually ramble a lot, but seem to be going in all different directions lately. As Cynthia said, we would be happy to hear a little background and your connections to Red River County. You will be surprised how one word or name can spark common interest. Also any interesting experience or memory of you or anyone to do with Red River County, would be of great interest. I have been busy recently trying to help some others with their genealogy by private messages. Jim Giddens Paris/Reno/Clarksville, Tx CHS-1959

    2. Chrissy Roth
    3. Hi! I am new to the group. I have been researching my family roots there in Red River and am lucky to have found lots of information. My family has been in Red River since the late 1800's. Their names are the Bond's and the Loftin's. A lot of my family still live near and around Dekalb. My great-grandmother always said she was from Cuthand and from there I have found the majority of my information. If anyone is interested in the surnames English, Bond, Campbell,or Loftin, I would love to help. I was born and raised all over Northeast Texas, but now I reside in San Diego,California. I am always looking for new information, so if anyone has any links to those names I mentioned I would be happy to swap. Thanks, Chrissy Roth
