Thanks so much Carol. My dad always thought that my GGGG GF Reuben Giddens came from Europe as a young man, but I keep running across other possibilities without documentation. It would not be the first time my dad was correct, when I would wonder, only to find out later he was right. Dad use to tell me Reuben was buried at Lone Star Cemetery in a lost grave and I just could not understand why he would be buried 15 to 20 miles from Concord. Later I learned the Lone Star Cemetery is on the land that was Reuben's headright land. The land was purchased for a the cemetery over 15 years after Reuben died in 1853 in Red River County at a approx age of 75. It shows Reuben was buried on his own land. Dad was always puzzled and irritated that the family did not put up a perminate marker for their father. The next 4 generations of the family was buried at Concord. There are census and deed records in N.C. that have places & dates that make it very possible that Edward or James was the father of Reuben. I have copes of the witnessing for each other also. Reuben left N.C. in 1810, maybe after his father died. I also have photocopies of records of Reuben's daughter Margaret married in Floyd Co. Ky to Isaac James, great uncle of Jesse James, according to Eric James, as present day descendent in Calif of Jesse James. Reuben performed the marriage ceremony "according to the rights and sacromenies (sp) of the church to which I belong given und my hand this 10th day of August 1820". This is also in the book, Annuals of Floyd County Ky, 1820-1826. Carol, Can you do a lookup for me. Can you look for Giddens or Gideon with the first names of Reuben, James or Edward. I was given a copy of a page from Ramfre, "A Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region", by Ramfre Press, 1844. According to this page, Edward Gideon was killed in the Amer. Rev. War. It may be it was not Edward, but James that was the one killed. Also, name Giddens & Gideon seems to flow in and out of records in those early years. If it is Reuben or Edward, it is possible he was the father or grandfather of my GGGG GF Reuben Giddens that married in Wilkes Co. N.C. in 1797. In 1800 there was a James, Reuben and 2 Edward Giddens in Burke/Wilkes Co. N.C. Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it......don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. What are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass a green leafy vegetable). A pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable slop. Q: Is beer or wine bad for me? A: Look, it goes to the earlier point about fruits and vegetables. As we all know, scientists divide everything in the world into three categories: animal, mineral, and vegetable. We all know that beer and wine are not animal, and they are not on the periodic table of elements, so that only leaves one thing, right? My advice: Have a burger and a beer and enjoy your liquid vegetables. Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good. Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you? Q: What's the secret to healthy eating? A: Thicker gravy. Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach. Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy? HELLO...... Cocoa beans ... another vegetable!!! It's the best feel good food around!" Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. Have a cookie... flour is a veggie! One more thing... "When life hands you lemons, ask for a bottle of tequila and salt. ENJOY YOUR DIET!!!!!

That Vessey road, to me is one any beautiful back roads of Red River County. I have taken several pictures along that road. Picture at one home has a sign next to the road with the word "Vesey" in it (one S). I forget exactly what it says Pictures of deserted homes of yesteryear. and the at the north end of the road splits into 2 road and both got on to Hwy 1159 (northside). The right (east) split is the most interesting with a sign about turkey hunting and then the Acworth church and cemetery. I thing the cemetery gate says "Mt Pleasant Cemetery" but I don't hold me to that. Also at the beginning of the road on the south end is the Atkins Ranch. This is the original ranch/farm of the Atkins family. The other is on Hwy 82 west of Detroit. If you will drive the complete FM 1159 you will see signs for several old cemeteries and communities. Vessy is a good 10+ miles from the Bowie County Line and probably no direct roads or if any, very poor. Much easier to go 7 pr 8 miles to Clarksville. Hi Drew,I am not answering the part of your question about Bowie County as I am not sure where the boundaries lie,but Texarkana is in Bowie county. If a person has other verification of birth, such as Bible records or a person who could verify the birth, that is accepted for application for proof of age,by the Social Security Administration. Social Security could give more info on this. Hope it helps a little. I have a question...how far was Vessey from the county line of Bowie? I didn't find my grandfather's brith record in Red River, yet he said on his Social Security Application that he was born there. I am not sure if he was or not, but that is the only document I have at this time. I thought maybe they could have filed it in Bowie County if it was close to the county line. One of his sister's birth record shows Vessey and it was filed in Red River. Also, does anyone know if you HAD to have a birth cert to get a SS#? Thanks, Drew Slate Fort Worth, Tx

Jan, Joyce and Johnny may live in Reno (close to the line) and the Zip would be 75462 as mine is. Reno does not have it own post office (only a branch of Paris) so most of us just say Paris. Something about another Reno northwest of Fort Worth that had first dibs on the Reno name. I think that link broke up. Here's an easier one: http://www.usps.com/. Then click on Find Zip Codes.
