Previously he lived in Franklin and Wood counties, but bought land in 1905 "...13 SW Clarkesville in Red River Co., TX... Bk 79, Pg 405" According to the deed, he bought the land (25 acres) from L. L. and Carrie Dowell for $250. His last marriage was to Mahalia E. Carrington on 13 Nov 1907. I have spent more than a month stomping around in Red River and surrounding counties trying to find where he was buried and exactly when he died. (I live in California). Were there any newspapers in Bogata in 1910? Any ideas appreciated... Mary Lou

    3. Diane, I am familiar with most of the names. Some are in the Concord Church minutes, some are buried at Concord, Madras, White Rock and Old Shiloh Cemeteries. One thing I am in constant search for is proof that R.F. Giddens is Richard Franklin Giddens and not Richard Francis Giddens. I have his signature in several places back to 1818 but he always used only the middle initial "F" and the same of all the court records. I know Ancestry.Com has it as Francis as does LDS in some entries, but that is from entries of only one branch of the family. My Dad and people in their 80s that have lived in the Concord area all their lives all and related to my Giddens people, say "Franklin". I have spent hours going through the records at the RR Co courthouse, but so far, only "F". I try to tell my self, it is no big thing and just stick with "F", but I just want to nail it down everytime is see Francis. Francis is a common name in the Giddens men, and is probably why the wife of Lt. J.R. Giddens that was killed at the age of 39 in a Indian battle in 1865, told her family it was "Francis. The other think I search for documentation is the parents of Reuben Giddens. Also I hope to some day get time to search the Northern Standard for a obit on Reuben Giddens that died in 1853 or 1854. I have his signature in 1853 when he was sick and selling his land. 2. Jim Giddens
    3. I found my information on Keeton. Carole Keeton Rylander (recently it became Carole Keeton Strahorn). Daughter of W. Page Keeton. Carole has served as State Comptroller, Railroad Commissioner, Insurance Commissioner and Mayor of Austin. She spent her summer in Clarksville as a child and remembers it as her "summer camp". Also from Red River County is Robert Keeton, US.District Judge, Boston, Mass. former professor of law at Harvard, known as the father of no-fault auto insurance. Robert has/had a brother Dean Page Keeton in politics in Austin. I do not know the relation of these men to Carole, but I assume there is one. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx

    3. I was asked to deliver the following message from Lawrence and Sue Dale, who continue to transcribe obits and publish books. If you would be interested in the book they mention, please get in touch with them or get in touch with me and I will forward the information. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sue JUST finished up the Bogata newspapers for 1944 and 1945, this gives 1944 through 1957 for Bogata, all the miscellaneous newspaper OBITS on the 2 reels of film sent in last year and the reel of film just purchased for The Standard of 1861 thru 1876 --- only 17 OBITS here in The Standard Believe that we can put together another book the size of the Detroit and Deport OBITS books and keep pricing the same or it may be a little smaller, (ie, around $20 plus tax of 1.35 and shipping of $5) --- won't know until we actually do the book and it will take some doing due to the several sources involved Question Is this wanted? --- or do people want to wait until the RED book comes out in about May 2005?

    3. I thought this was a good reminder for Red River County one from one of your favorite talk shows Dirt Roads by Paul Harvey What's mainly wrong with society today is that too many DirtRoads have been paved. There's not a problem in America today, crime, drugs, education, divorce, delinquency that wouldn't be remedied, if we just had more Dirt Roads, because Dirt Roads give character. People that live at the end of Dirt Roads learn early on that life is a bumpy ride. That it can jar you right down to your teeth sometimes, but it's worth it, if at the end is home...a loving spouse, happy kids and a dog. We wouldn't have near the trouble with our educational system if our kids got their exercise walking a Dirt Road with other kids, from whom they learn how to get along. There was less crime in our streets before they were paved. Criminals didn't walk two dusty miles to rob or rape, if they knew they'd be welcomed by 5 barking dogs and a double barrel shotgun. And there were no drive by shootings. Our values were better when our roads were worse! People did not worship their cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous, they didn't tailgate by riding the bumper or the guy in front would choke you with dust & bust your windshield with rocks. Dirt Roads taught patience. Dirt Roads were environmentally friendly, you didn't hop in your car for a quart of milk you walked to the barn for your milk. For your mail, you walked to the mail box. What if it rained and the Dirt Road got washed out? That was the best part, then you stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn and pony rode on Daddy's shoulders and learned how to make prettier quilts than anybody. At the end of Dirt Roads, you soon learned that bad words tasted like soap. Most paved roads lead to trouble, Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek or a swimming hole.At the end of a Dirt Road, the only time we even locked our car was in August, because if we didn't some neighbor would fill it with too much zucchini. At the end of a Dirt Road, there was always extra springtime income, from when city dudes would get stuck, you'd have to hitch up a team and pull them out.Usually you got a dollar...always you got a new friend...at the end of a Dirt Road!
