    3. Hi group, Just a note to let you know I have added many new pages to Early Texas Newspaper Clippings. These are abstracts from various early Texas newspapers which contain events such as death notices, marriages, crimes, and lots of other genealogically relevant trivia. Most of these are late 1800s through early 1900s. Warning, they can be fun and addicting to read! http://www.censusdiggins.com/tx_news.html Happy Searchin' Brenda CensusDiggins.com http://www.censusdiggins.com Home of FREE databases and GenStuff GiveAway.

    2. Jim Giddens
    3. All, I have been e-mailed by two Igo brothers. They are great great grandsons of Garrett Igo that is buried at Concord. Their father moved from Clarksville when he was 5. Their father Ernest Igo was born in Madras in 1915. Earnest's mother was Elsa Harvey from the area but they know not where. Their new grandson was named Garret Igo. They know little if anything about Red River Co. They did visit Concord once. They know nothing about John & Joan Igo that I went to high school with in Clarksville. They are interested in the area and hope to return for a visit in the future. I think they they found me from the RRCo web-site. If anyone has any family history of their family, I will pass it on to them. I did scan the Igo page in the RRR book and send it to them. I know of no family connection between the Igo and Giddens people. One brother lives in Sugarland, Tx and the other in Arcadia, Ok. Have a good week-end. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx jimg@cox-internet.com

    3. Debra, I appreciate the offer of help. I am not sure I want to go through all that trouble to prove anything, it's just I would like to know how my aunt fits in here. I talked to my mother the other day and she said that my last living aunt on this side said that Helen was adopted, but she doesn't know anymore than that. I plan on getting with her daughter and seeing what she can tell me. I just like to know how everyone fits in, not trying to say she's not from our line. She was raised, apparantly, from a little baby by my grandparents, so that would make her just as much a part of the family as any others. I just wanted to clarify why I couldn't find a birth certificate. If you are interested, the names concerned are my grandparents, Dave Franklin Spangler and Ora Elizabeth Gamble. The one I am thinking might be adopted is Helen Marie Spangler. My cousin is showing a birth date of 6-23-1926 in Clarksville. Helen's obituary shows she is the daughter of Ora Elizabeth Spangler and shows my aunts and Dad as her siblings. I did find a birth record for her daughter that showed Helen's name as Helen Marie Parker. It's a very interesting mystery, but it wouldn't change how I feel about aunt Helen, just would help me to make sure I have my facts right. I kind of find it interesting how to handle some situations. You don't want to offend someone because this person has always been a part of the family, but sometimes you find out things that perhaps better kept secret. I always find it hard to figure out how to record the facts without offending folks. Thanks for any help, Ken Spangler Paris, Texas BBIRDSWIFE@aol.com wrote: That would be probably hard to find out. I know I had to petition the court here in Lamar cty to open my adoption papers file. Since that has happened, the only thing I really would like to have now is my original birthcertificate, which is in Austin sealed....until I can get the same judge to send a court order to unseal it. Do you know how old the person was when they were adopted??? 2. I agree and am happy that you are doing this for Cory. I was adopted too! I am now 45 and have FTM titled "birth family" and "family" as well by the surnames themselves. It can get kind of hairy sometimes keeping them apart and I have learned when I hit a rock, I move on to the other name for a while. Congratulations on doing this heartfelt task, so your child can know of who he came from.....besides God. ___________________ * * * * * * * * *___________________ * * * * * * * * ___________________ * * * * * * * * *___________________ ______________________________ ______________________________ ______________________________

    1. [TXREDRIV] mowery
    2. List: This is kind of long but since there are several that are interested in the Mowery's I am forwarding on an e-mail that I received several years ago, it contains lots of interesting inf. Beverly Presson Bakersfield, CA April 1, 2000 Beverly, I came across your information on my great grandmother. I assume that you to are a descendant of this dear lady. Your information did not include my grandfather Luther Monroe Mowery or a second son who was killed during World War I. I recall seeing a picture of the military company that grand dad's brother was in. An interesting thing about the picture was that one of the soldiers was in the picture twice. The explanation was that the camera was one of the old type that had a crank on it and they turned the camera while it was taking the picture. One of the men jumped down off the platform and ran around behind the other soldiers and made it to the other side before the camera was turned all the way to the opposite side of the company of men. My grand dad was born in December 8, 1873; and died in 1955. He married Elmira Talley. They had six children that lived. I am not sure if there were some who died in their infancy. Aunt Maude was the oldest and outlived all of her siblings, her husband and all of her children. I preached her funeral this January assisted by my first cousin Kennith Mowery at Idabel, Oklahoma. She was 104 years of age. Aunt Maude married Mills Reed and they spent much of their life in the Hopewell community of Red River County, Texas. She was buried in the Denison Cemetery east of Idabel where several of our relatives are buried including my parents. Aunt Ruby was the second child of grand dad and grandmother Mowery. She married a Porter. Her grandson Raymond (Ray) Porter, Jr. has a web site on family history. Some of it is not complete and the battle site in which Mathias Mowery was taken prisoner was not in Arkansas, but Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). My dad William Oliver (Ollie) Mowery, Sr. was the third child; my mother was Dezdy Myrtle Wilson. My parents had seven children. The first two were boys that died in infancy. The next three were girls, Charleen, Mildred and Ollie Jean. Ollie Jean died about 12 years ago. The last two were boys: my brother William Luther (Bill), and myself. I only have my dad's initials. My name is W. O. (Dub) Mowery, Jr. Now back to the children of my grandparents: uncle Richard was the fourth child; uncle Bradley was the fifth child, and uncle Sidney was the sixth child. Aunt Cindy is the only sibling of grand dad Mowery that I knew. She and uncle Jim lived in the Hopewell community. They had one of the old fashion homes with a fox (dog) trot breezeway in the middle of it. They did not have any children. Her actual name Lucinda. She was named after one of her aunts. I did not know my great aunt Francis or whether her and her husband had any children. I knew that there was a connection between the Monkhouse family and the Mowery family. Well maybe I have rattled on too long. I would appreciate hearing from you and exchanging family data. I lived north of Mt. Pleasant, Texas for seven years until moving to Drumright, Oklahoma where I preach for the West Broadway church of Christ. My wife Charlotte and I are doing research on our respected families. I have come in contact with several descendants of Mathias and Malinda (Giddens) Mowery on the various genealogy web sites. The web site of Ray Porter's in which he is dedicating to his father is: http://hometown.aol.com/morphism/homepage.htm My sister Charleen Samuels lives at McAlester, Oklahoma. She also is doing extensive family research. We will be looking forward to hearing from you. Dub P. S. There will be a Mowery family reunion at my niece Jeanie Gail Chadwick's home in Idabel on the Saturday of May 13th. You would be welcome to join in with us. Also, there is usually a Mowery reunion at Jacksonville, Texas each summer.

Lucy was a daughter of Joseph Roberts Bryant, s/o Solomon George Bryant of RR Co., and Marion Florida Pickett, d/o Willis Picket and Lucy Boller/Bowler of RR Co. Lucy and Charles had six children, including Charles Wesley, Jr. Lucy died ca. 1885, Kaufman Co., Texas. Charles died in Arkansas ca. 1927. After Lucy's death, Charles married Mollie Young.
