Garett Igo owned a saw mill in Wright City, OK. One of his daughters married a Honeywell and moved to Sweet Home, Oregon where she died. My brother is now married to one of Garrett's granddaughters. Mary Hulsey Kilgore, TX.
In reading different things today about Cunningham, Taylor Ladd and others, reminded me that Taylor's daughter Shirley, married Billy Jordan, and though I do not know where Billy Jordan came from, I would guess that he was from somewhere around Cunningham because Shirley told me once that she had had a " crush "on him for as long as she could remember. She still lives here North of Paris, but they no longer are together. Just wanted to add this bit in case someone wanted to know, or had forgotten. Sam Paris
Is this the same Garrett Igo who got a Confederate Soldier's pension in McCurtain County, Okla? I was just reading in the Texas Handbook that Vessey (Vesey) was settled by the family of Garrett Igo about 1850. I know we have discussed both separately. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx
Jordan of Minter: Sarah, my son-in-law, Rick Jordan of Paris, is the son of Jerry Jordan raised in Minter. I have heard them speak of their Jordan family buried in Minter (Lamar Co). Jerry is the one telling me all about Taylor Ladd of Cunningham. I met Taylor when I was taking a tour of Cunningham and saw this man in his yard, and stopped and met him. Taylor was a most interesting man. I see Jerry almost every week, I will ask him about Ephriam Jordan and Elizabeth "Bettie". ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sarah Ragsdill" <rags@koyote.com> To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 12, 2003 9:05 AM Subject: [TXREDRIV] Cunningham > Hi, > Is your Lucinda Elizabeth Kennedy Sheppard in any way related to Elizabeth > "Bettie" Ann Sheppard Jordan 1854-1925 wife of Ephriam Jordan of the > Cunningham, Minter area? > > Sarah > Sulphur Springs, Texas > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <PRCarpe@aol.com> > To: <TXREDRIV-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, July 12, 2003 12:36 AM > Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Allen > > > > In a message dated 7/11/2003 10:05:06 PM Mountain Daylight Time, > > jimg@cox-internet.com writes: > > > > > I told Roger that our grouped had discussed the old "band stand" in the > > > cross roads of Cunningham. I met a stranger at Kwik Kar today in Paris. I introduced myself to him and he replied he was Roger Allen. I asked if he was related to the Allen family of Allen Lumber of Clarksville. He said no, he was from Cunningham (far southeast Lamar Co). I talked with him about 10 minutes more before it struck me. I asked, are you related to Duane Allen. He said they were cousins. Duane Allen is the lead singer of The Oak Ridge Boys. I told Roger that our grouped had discussed the old "band stand" in the cross roads of Cunningham. Some one had a picture of it, but it has been gone for many years now. Have a good week-end. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx
Cathy, Congratulations , this is a very exciting time for you and all your family. I'm sure you are looking forward to being a blessing to your grandchild. I get great joy out of hearing my kids (grown), telling how they loved visiting with my mother. She was great to let them entertain her by them dancing for her, singing for her, dressing up for her, putting on make-up, serving her tea, and etc etc. Will you be living near your grandchild so you can really spoil it good? I a glad you shared this with us all. WhooHoo! Another little branch on the ol' Family Tree! My Mama says the best thing about grandbabies is you get to love them, and spoil them, then give them back!!! And the woman lives by her words! Sam, I'm so happy that you're up and around, and enjoying yourself and counting your blessings! For anyone who is interested, this url is wonderful. Very uplifting and breathtaking photography: www.aninterviewwithgod.com And Jim! You're a man after my own heart! I just live hearing your stories. It's like sitting at the corner store and having folks paraded in front of you, complete with scorecard! Sitting here reading my e-mail is almost as good as being the proverbial "fly on the wall" lol! Ya'll have a great weekend.
