    2. My mom was born in Detroit and I grew up listening to her stories about her Adams cousins and my great-grandmother Taylor who lived there. I'll never forget that her Uncle Sam Adams had a cotton-candy maker. Kids always remember anything about good food, or, at least I did. I've visited Clarksville just one time back in 1970s. I'll never forget one of the best meals I've ever eaten was at a " family style " cafe. My grandfather Frank Stevenson, a traveling preacher, also lived there at one time and had stories to tell. Grandma liked to tell about the night she and Mrs. Gilkey had babies born there on the same night in 1903 or there about. My aunt Nellie married one of the Gilkey boys in 1900, so, it was somewhat of a family affair and must have been exciting for both families. Do any of you know anything about an orphanage that was located in Detroit ? My great-grandmother, a widow, used to work there back in the early 1900s. It would be interesting to know the names of those children who lived there. Mary Stevenson Hulsey.

    3. This is one of the things that I love about this list - that people can have feelings, mention prayers and God, talk about whom they saw at the drugstore in Paris (or wherever), talk about roto tillers and metal finders and just be a group of friends. I have never been to Red River Co. except once years ago to drive through Clarksville but everything was closed up because it was Good Friday so I could not even stop at the courthouse. This was before I knew all of you - could have just stopped to chat. I cannot wait to go - hoping to this Autumn. I want to meet Jim and Sam and anyone else who lives there. This is living genealogy - it must be just the way that all of our families felt about each other. I learn about my ancestors by knowing you and yours. I unsubscribed once or twice in the past when my mail became unmanageable but soon re-subbed because this is the list where nobody complains and so many messages make me smile. This is my favourite list. Charmaine Charmaine Riley Holley archivehobbit@mac.com "...but hobbits have a passion for family history." - Tolkein in Lord of the Rings

    3. While the list is quite, I would like to ask any of you that care to, to help just a bit. About 40 years ago, I was sitting in our church, and the preacher was right in the middle of his subject for the week, when all of a sudden, down the church isle, and right up on the pulpit runs this little boy, probably 18 Months old, and he walks right up to the preacher and takes hold of his pant leg. Of course, the preacher stops and gives him his complete attention, and almost instantly, this man with a big smile and a red face comes to get him. You see, this was a special child, and was not supposed to live to be more than 3 years old, so it was even more cute to the congregation, considering the circumstances. Well, not only did this little man surprise everyone by running up on the pulpit, he surprised everyone even more by how he battled his sickness. That young man's name was John Mark Stallings, and many of you know much about his father and mother. They are the Gene Stallings family that made good in college and pro football, but this is not about football, but ! about John Mark. You see, this young man that was not to get much beyond 3 years of age, came into my hospital room in one of my darkest hours, and the big smile on his face just had to help my feelings--instant feel better. This morning at church, John Mark and his dad came by me, and wished me well with only the smile John Mark can give you, and he was concerned with my condition even though he himself was being pushed by his dad in his wheel chair. Things are looking a little shaky for John Mark at this time, but you can only tell by looking at him, because you will not hear a complaint from his mouth. Now, I don't know what you believe in. You might believe in prayer or something else, but what ever it is, lets " SAY ONE FOR JOHN ". If you have ever met him, you already that he is one of the sweetest persons you ever met. If not, then please take my word for it. His parents both are very nice, as nice as you could want to meet, but this is a request for John Mark--he nee! ds our prayers or what you believe in. Thank you for your time. Sam Paris

    3. I tried to send this obit from the Paris new site but have not seen it yet. Robert Carey Wooley, 83 of Clarksville died July 10, service at CFH with burial to follow in Wooley's Pig Pen Ranch Cemetery. Born in Broken Bow, Okla son of Frank & Dixie Gray Wooley. Married Imogene Finley in 1954 in New Mexico. I know he is related to Maurice Wooley (Wooley Ford), but not sure how. I see pallbearers include James & John Finley. I know the Finely boys from Dimple School days but had not connected them to the Wooley's. Another pallbearer is Larry Bean. Larry I know was a nephew to Mrs Maurice Wooley. One reason I post this obit was our discussion of the Pig Pen Ranch Cemetery. Larry's brother Eddie Bean died about 2 years ago while living here in Paris. Eddie and I were good friends all through our growing up days. I remember in Little League baseball, Eddie got a lot of walks while batting becaue he would squat so that his shoulders were about 3 inches from his knees. Eddie and I use to fish together at Kay's Ranch lake and we would swim in the white rock pits in the Clarksville area. One pit was just across the railroad tracks and US 82 where the English road cuts north. The other pit was on Hwy 37 about 5 miles out of Clarksville toward Bogata. In the area of the Tippitt old home place. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx

There are about 4 brothers in my age range. Harold Sheppard is on the school board and has insurance business. Wayne was in my class at CHS. Wayne's "Grandma Sheppard lived one house up and across College Ave from our home when I was growing up. I don't remember her name buy Wayne and I are in e-mail contact if you would like to know. 3. Hi Jim, Yes, Ephriam and Elizabeth "Bettie" Ann Sheppard Jordan were my grandmother, Bessie Ann Jordan Wicks, parents on my mother's side. I was not sure where Ephriam was from, all his kids were born in Tennessee, according to my records, my grandmother was born in Juno, Henderson County, Tennessee that is the only one I am sure of. My grandmother was born in 1892 and I think she said she was about 5 or 6 when they came to Texas in a covered wagon, she remembered it. I have more information on the Jordans than the Sheppards, I did find a 1860 census with Bettie and her brother John with the parent also in Henderson. Her dad was already 54 and her mom was 44 at that time so I don't think they came to Texas with them. There were some more Sheppard's in Lamar County and even another John Sheppard so I am having trouble separating them. I have that Ephriam had two brothers a John and a Jack but that is the only thing I have, maybe this John is the John Carroll you mentioned. I don't know what their parents names were. I have run across more than one Ephriam in Tennessee. I wish they had named them I II III in each family so they would have been easier to research. I have one picture of Ephriam and Bettie and none with or of the children. If you think about it sometime would you ask if he has any old picture that he could scan? 3. I don't remember just how we got into this but: I talked with Rick and his dad Jerry Jordan today. William Harris "Billy" Jordan is a brother of Jerry Jordan. Billy lives here in Paris. Jerry said Billy was married 3 times. 1. Gail McDonald, 2.Shirley Ladd, 3. Janie (sp) Dawson. Jerry mentioned one of Billy's wives dying, I think it was Janie that died. Ephriam is buried at Woodard Cemetery in Minter. William Morris " Bud" Jordan and Robert Elihe Bert Jordan are buried in Meadowbrook Cemetery on US. 271 on the southeast corner of Paris close to the airport. Ephriam married Betty Sheppard. Robert E.B. Jordan (gf of Jerry) married Eultra (sp) Norrell (sp). Rich said his great grandfather Ephriam came with his brothers from Jackson, Miss. We stayed over night in Jackson, Miss while traveling to D.C. Rick looked in the phone book and there was a Jordan with a first name similar to Elihue. Rick said John Carroll Jordan was ran the Colligate Shop on the square in Paris, then later went to Sulphur Springs and operated a similar type business. I don't remember who he said John Carroll was, but it may have been his gf's brother. Sarah, is this part of your family line. I took notes best I could but some of the above is from memory and I hope I got it right. 3. Hi Mike, I was cleaning up some old emails from the Red River County mailing list and saw the mention of the Tomlinson family. I found some Tomlinson burials at Bethel Cemetery, south of Detroit. My GGGGrandfather Slate's second wife, Margaret Louise Guthrie, is buried there. I noticed the Tomlinson graves just to the west of her's and took pictures. I remember noticing the name because of LaDanion Tomlinson, who played for TCU and now the Chargers. I then got to looking because if I remember correctly there is a loose connection to the Slate family with the Tomlinson family. I have pictures of all the tombstones if you want to take a look. 3. Garrett Igo (Sr) is buried at Concord, born 14 Feb 1813 died 14 Feb 1895. Born in Madison Co, Ky son of William and Mary "Pollie" Rabourn Igo. Garrett married Nancy Haggard in 1834 in Ky.. Then there was Garrett Igo Jr. Records show Garrett Jr married Mary C from "Early McCurtain County Obituaries. One of their daughters was Ruby that matches with RRR entry of Garret Jr married to Mollie Garrison with children Pearl. Reagan, Daisy, RUBY, and Joe. Garrett Igo Jr must be the Confederate soldier. Jr's parents were married in 1834, so this would make him probably in the age range for the Civil War. Jr's wife Mary C Igo is buried at Concord in 1908. The obit said she leaves to mourn her death 3 children (no mention of husband) with her funeral conducted Saturday. at family residence by Rev. O.L. Burns, J.D. Rogers and F.P. Allgood. Early Sunday morning her remains were carried to Madras, Tx where they were interred in the family cemetery Sunday night . Oh, the RRR said Garrett Jr died in 1930 in Idabel, Ok and is buried there. Garrett Jr also had a sister named Mollie that married Dr John Summers. Man this gets a person crossed eyed.
