John Lewis was Luther Lewis'a brother, Cora was his wife, they had J.R. and Wilma, she married a Findley. Wilma did. : ) I think J.R. was once a t.v. repair man..then he was a justice of the peace. I think now he is very sick. He is married to my best friend from school' s mother, Glennis Tull Hall. I remember John as a very gentle , sweet man. I was a child as I remember him but he was quiet and softspoken and Cora was a sweet person also, they never missed church.. Yes, she was a Monkhouse. I hate to hear about her being in a nursing home and having problems..I think I did know she was in a nursing home. Jim Giddens <[email protected]> wrote: What about John L. Cora got out one night about 2 weeks ago, the EMTs found her about 100 yards down U.S. 82 in the lawn of the Church of Christ. She was banged up pretty. That coincidence sounds like a "God Wink". marilyn
Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions. Would Archie's dad, Luther have the name Archie too? Like Archie Luther, or Luther Archie? And would his wife Jewel have lost an eye, due to some kids throwing rocks long ago. My Jewel always wore a patch on the eye. She and husband Archie lived in Garland, TX at one time for many years. Our parents used to take us by on visits. I sure would love to find out more on this Lewis family. My Mom was a Lewis, and she died in 96. I never did get to find out much on her family. Thank you. Archie Mac Lewis was accidently shot on November 19th, 1966 near Hopewell at the age of 15. He was the son of Luther and Jewel Lewis. Archie loved to read and was loved by all who knew him. Today was his birthday and he wouldve been 54 years old today. It is so tragic that he is not here to celebrate. But, I know he is definitely not forgotten. Me too, Jim. My Mama said a cousin had told of another bad wreck in Pushmahata County over North West of this county. There was another big rig involved, but I do not know details. It will be several days before we will hear anything, as this place is the "back of beyond", or that is what I call it. Take care and what is the grandsons name? I forgot again. Now I am told that was a 2nd crash on the Mill Creek Bridge sending two people to the hospital. Also on the 82 crash, it was a "heavy equipment rig" take slide off the side of the flat bed trailer into the approaching lane, on a bridge and with the approaching car hitting it head on, bursting into flames, killing 2 adults and 2 teens. Witness said the truck driver tried to help the people in the car, but the flames were just too strong. Chances are they were dead by that time. Pardon me getting off the genealogy/history path, but I am thankful were where not a couple of minutes ahead. Early brief report in the Paris News states there were at least 4 killed in the firey crash. States a trailer came "off" of a truck. U.S. 56 (old 82) was closed also. I understand it was due to bridge problems on Mill Creek. My daughter and family left Sherman about 1 hr after we did. The could not take 56 as we did. Patrolman told them to go south to Wright then 78 to Bonham. Instead, he went north to Denison and took 69 (I think it is) to Bells and bypass the accident. Thanks guys. I am signed on both city and personally Lynn Narramore Stephenson
Jim, you did not take a wrong turn, God sent you on the right turn....NOTHING IS A COINCIDENCE!!
I have exchange e-mail several times if not many over the last 2 or 3 years with Lynn Narmoore Stephenson. She was raised in Avery and is secretary for the City of Avery. Today I encouraged to sign up to our Red River County Rootsweb genealogy site, and she said she was signing up. I explained our format. I hope she is on the list now and receiving this Welcome to her. She has been very helpful to me in answering question, some I sent to her from you guys. Lynn was a fine teenager when we were in Avery in the 70s and she continues to be a fine asset to the community. Nite All, Jim Giddens Paris, Tx p.s. Coming back from Sherman tonight, there was a head on crash around 9:30 p.m. on a bridge just east of Sherman. We were about 10 cars behind it according to the line. We did not see it. I found out later it was a bad one. If any in the area know anything, I would be interested in it. I learned that a hour later the bridge was still closed off and old 82 (56) was also blocked, not sure why. I am glad I was running late in getting our of Sherman due to taking a wrong turn. We never know what is around the corner.
The obit of Bill Bristow (William Robert Bristow) was in this last week's Clarksville Times. He was 95 years old and died in Texarkana. He and wife, Lena Mae, ran a grocery store in Bagwell when I was a kid. I went to school with his kids, Billy, Bobby, Cora Anna, and Joe. They buried him at Old Shamrock Cemetery. He was a WW II veteran and had outlived 3 wives. O'Dena Crosby, Lena Mae Cruce and Lydia Hall. This family had been moved away to DeKalb for years but always came to Bagwell's yearly homecoming.
Phyllis, Joseph and Margaret are the parents of Lonzo Harmon (Harmon Lonzo). Do you have any information on Margaret? I have found her in 1870 and 1880 census. Think I have located her in Franklin Co, TX census with daughters Annie and Maggie. Have you found her in 1850 and 1860 AR census? The parents of Joseph Anderson are Wyatt and Jane Billingsley Anderson. Wyatt is buried at Old Shamrock Cem., Red River Co. Lee I am curious about the Lonzo that you mention. My uncle by marriage, Jim Dee Anderson, was the son of Harmon Lonzo Anderson and Ida Mae Phelps. Phyllis Carpenter ==== TXREDRIV Mailing List ==== ============================== New! My mom, when she used to get angry could say "I am going to kick you into the middle of next week!" She would also tell me when I would be wearing a sleeveless blouse..."Debra, you make me cold, would you please go put on a sweater?" Other things I can not remember. I do remember one time when I was in college, I was doing some homework at mom and dad's house. This time I could not get a Calculus problem to come out right for anything...I had gotten up and went outside to clear my mind, had come back in and had worked again on it for about 15 minutes. She was right next to me and I said "Bull Hockey!!" Oh, man, she slapped me accross the face....and I was married with kids running around! I said, what did I say.....she said "you said a cuss word.....and I am going to wash your mouth out with soap!!" How was I suppose to know that in her younger days that was word they used for Bull Sh??......(Sorry cynthia) I had never heard of that till that moment. I can still feel the sting....haha. She was a wonderful mother and woman. Still miss her so much.....and dad too. Sorry about my rambling.....of course I am a quite bit younger than the rest of you RR folks (no offense) , but I have heard everyone of the sayings so far that have been posted. Debra in Paris
