This Bruntley family is listed in the Red River 1880 census: Sarah Bruntley Self F (Sex ) Widowed W (Race) Age 32 TN (Birthplace) Nannie B " Dau F S W 10 TX Roseanna " Dau F S W 9 TX Sarah I. " Dau F S W 5 TX Lillie " Dau F S W 3 TX Mary J " SDau F S W 17 TX Thomas Smothers married Martha Brundtly in Crockett CO., TN in 1879. There was a Thomas Smothers in Red River Co. in 1900 with two daughters, but he had married again and had a daughter and son by Carrie Hickey. I wonder if Sarah had a connection with Martha. Does anyone know this Bruntley family? Did any of the girls marry and stay in Red River County?
Tom & all, I do not believe Silberberg / Marx's was ever on the corner that I know of unless it was before my time it has always been in the same place. I remember as a boy, the large display glass in case that was like a island in the front of the store. It was probably about 6 ft x 10 foot. You could walk around and around it without going into the store, then there was two sets of double doors, never did seem to be a main door, but the mens side was on the left and the ladies and bedding etc was on the right. I also believe there was a penny weight machine it front, as the was at a few other stores, at least 3. Been a long day, better hit the sack and get ready for 5:50 a.m. again. Jim/Sharon: Seems like I remember Silberberg's store being next door to the old Texan movie theater, which burned in the mid fifties. I bought an Easter dress there in 1955, when I worked at The Hub. I thought it was still Silberberg's then. Marilyn

Maybe so. I will go back and check my e-mails over the last couple of weeks. I am having similar genealogy conversations during this time with 2 or 3 different people and sometimes they run together in my mine. Let me sort out the e-mails. Back to you tomorrow. Thanks for hanging in there with me. BTW, I did read the document of Lt Giddens's grave being moved before the land was flooded to cemetery in the area. That is great news. More on that later. Jim G p.a. I meant to send this direct to avoid tying up the list, but I will do that next time. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 19, 2005 8:05 PM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] question > CONGRATULATIONS!!! Thanks Jim for the information , we didn't get out of the car, so we assumed it must be locked. And Happy anniversery to you and Sue....: ) Jim Giddens <[email protected]> wrote:On my way to work this a.m., I took a few minutes to drive out to Sylvan and to the Sylvan Cemetery. Of course Sam is correct. However I drove by it the first time without seeing it. It is close to exactly 2.0 miles from U.S. 82 and there is a Hwy type(state) sign on the left (north) side of the road pointing to the cemetery. It is just a few yards before you get to CR 13100. It is about 200 ft out in a pasture. You will not have any trouble with weeds or brush. There is a gate near the road. It has a latched chain, but not a lock. The lady next door said to keep the gate chained or the horses would get out. I could see the marker from the gate, but I did not have time to stop and go in for a look. I did not notice or could not see a fence around the immediate area of the cemetery. I guess that means the cemetery and visitors are exposed to the horses. It is my Lt James Richard Giddens, CSA, died 9 days after been shot at the Battle of Dove Creek with the Kickapoo Indians in the area of what is now San Angelo in Jan, 1865. The lady only has a calculated guess at to where the grave actually is. He was buried by this troops with full military honors on the banks of the Concho River on John Chisum's Ranch. Nearest my research has is that the grave is probably under the water of a man made lake now. The lady, Mary I think, has some information indicating the grave was moved to another cemetery, but even then, there was no marker to mark the grave location. I am repeating my self I am sure from the past on some of this. She has been updating me recently on her efforts. I certainly appreciate her. She is Mary Epley, new found distant cousin to me. They said to get you the message that they had gotten a tombstone or marker placed at the Giddens ancestors.....the one that was high up in the military??? Did not catch the ancestors name. They said to tell you hello. Debra
