C-Times has picture and article of Brittany Bolin on her way to Orlando, FL to compete in the Miss National Pre-teen Princess Program during the Thanksgiving week-end. She was telling us all about it Sunday. Brittany's parents are Robert and Cathy Bolin and granddaughter of Tommy & Anita Bolin of Clarksville and Kenneth and Shirley Wickness of Bogata. I recently gave her a picture Bolin's Hardware Store on the square, owned and operated by her great grandfather Stanley Bolin. I have told her about me buying my first gun from Stanley, a 22 rifle I paid $14 for and paid it out in $2 payments. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx
I thought the original stairs were still there but didn't really pay that much attention the last time I was in there. I was giving some pictures to Mary Hausler for the genealogy society. Marilyn
Harris Clifton "Cliff" Brandley may belong to the same family, they came from GA to Lamar Co. I have ask permission to pass on the e-mail address to a Brantley family member. Beverly Bakersfield, CA
Milton is a half brother of Ellie's
That about the years I would go "shopping" in the loft at the Hub for Scouting "stuff". Cool stuff to me, but I seldom bought anything due to cash flow. I even thought those triple wide stairs going up to it were neat. Are those stairs still there?. I have been in the building recently and walked the loft, but approached from the front stairway and do not recall seeing those wide stairs in the building. I think my Brantleys were originally from GA but can find no proof and it would have been before 1840 as they were in TN at that time
Please put me in touch with this researcher, too. That had to be the guy I remember. When we carried the mail in a store, we were to stop at the first counter or some place like that to put their mail. Two or three of the guys you mentioned in your other post would meet us, and while they were getting their mail, we would have a little " bull " session, but not when this guy was there, everyone would be so busy, they didn't have time to fool with the mail man. This man favored the Silbeberg?? brothers, and the recent talk about them made me think of this guy. I sometimes think of this when I go to the Fish Fry here in Paris. If Doc Ensey is there, you do not have to see him to know he is there. He runs a "pretty tight ship". Thanks again for the memories. Hello, I have heard of Brantley's all my life.. Apparently my grandmother , Annie Smith, had friends that were Brantleys, this would have been in the 30's and 40's I think... I have pictures in with my grandmother's pictures of a Cliff , Ellie, and Mavis Brantley.. When people left the store without buying something, Mr. Friedman would jump on the nearest saleslady or man and asked why...didn't they show them such and such. He just wouldn't let anyone say no. They were supposed to meet anyone who came in and suggest something to them that maybe they'd buy. Marilyn
I'm the one who said I'd worked at The Hub. The only men who were there full time at that time was Harry and Willie Whitehouse, Geo. Sloan and a Green. I forget the first name right now. Charlie Freidman and a Mr. Kirschner were owners. I worked there one year, June 1954 to June 1955. Marilyn Trapp Shelby
Thank you for the information. The Freidman or Kirshner was the one I wanted to know about. Someone said one of them was named Sherman. I didn't think that was right, but I tried it. The one I was talking about was a small Jewish man, and when you walked in the store, you could tell he was there. Thanks again. RRR has no Bruntley names in the index, but more than a dozen Brantley names including the Coy Brantley that my parent knew from their early days. He had a son named Donald about 2 years older than me, which would make him about 66 now. I recalled Coy working at a small Humble gas station and also driving the distribution truck. He station has been gone for years. It was where the parking lot is now for the Courthouse annex (old Red River Bank) on W. Broadway. Coy and Donald live around the corner from us on Rose Hill for a relative short period of time. I do see in ther RRR that Coy's father was John Brantley. Coy was born 1916. (page 297, top left). Just a tid-bit. Mr. Smith, let me add a little question on your note about someone I would like information on. Someone said they worked at the Hub there in Clarksville in the past. I am wondering about a Mr. Sherman that had some connection with the store. Could that person or anyone else fill me in on this gentleman. Anything would be appreciated, and thank you Mr. Smith for letting me hitch onto your post. I'm sure the name was spelled many different ways. It's a rare name (even Brantly is), and Martha spelled it with a "d" and without the"e." I would love to know more about this Brantley family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peggy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2005 5:53 PM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Bruntley family > Was the name Bruntley and never spelled Brantley? in searching McNairy county TN genealogy site, I found two Brantley families listed on the 1850 census. I believe that Wiley Brantley is my GGrandmother's father though I cannot find any proof. Lucinda's oldest son, my grandfather, was named William Wiley. That is really about my only clue
I am looking for information on the Brantley family which apparently came from McNairy county TN to either western Arkansas or maybe NE Texas My GGrandmother was Lucinda Brantley Smith b about 1828. Married Levi Smith b 1828 in GA in 1848 . William f Smith
Was the name Bruntley and never spelled Brantley? My Montgomery family moved from TN and one of the girls married a Brantley. I believe there were more in RR county too.
