    2. Hi Jim: It may have been me. My mother's aunt, Ellie Thoms, married Harris Clifton Brantley on March 17, 1918 at Lone Pine. I probably have this cemetery information but will print it and compare. We replace many of the headstones several years back Beverly Bakersfield, CA

When I went to the old Bible to get them, they were not there to my puzzlement (is that a word). Finally, today doing searching for another matter, I dug out the correct old Bible. So here are the siblings. brothers Wylie is one that I have several pictures (WW I vet) and 2 more brothers which the names are not clear. Best I can make out on this list is Iria and Bobbie but I will look for clarification elsewhere's. sisters to Odie "Mae" Manning (she was called Mae) Birdie, Mattie, Mirtie, and Carrie. I know I have pictures of Carrie. My mother spoke of Aunt Carrie often. Mae's Manning parents are buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Lamar Co. Jim Giddens Paris, Tx

    3. A couple of posts about the Marries Chappell Cemetery brought back some memories to me. It is not Genealogy, but about Three Red River County citizens that have gone on to their finial reward. Delete if you wish. Several years ago, when you left Hgy. 271 and went south towards the Marries Chappell Cemetery, the First house was that of Mr. & Mrs. Guy Stephens. Now Mrs. Stephens was a very nice and polite lady. Mr. Stephens was a nice person too, but he really liked a good prank. He was out working in his garden one day, and Mr. Pat Beadle of Clarksville came along, looking for votes in his effort to win the Red River County Attorney position. He saw Mr. Stephens and stopped to talk a bit. Mr. Stephens said he would vote for him, and if he wanted to walk down to his house, hw would have his wife give them a cold drink of water, and he could probably get her vote too. As they walked to his house, Mr. Stephens told Pat that his wife could hardly hear, but if you looked in the ! face and talked loud, she could hear a little, and read his lips enough to have a conversation. Reaching his house, he invited Mr. Beadle to sit on the front porch in a rocking chair, and he would get Mrs. Stephens and the ice water. While in the house, he told his wife that Pat Beadle wanted to talk to her, but he warned her that Mr. Beadle could not hear very well, but to look him in the face, and talk loud. Imagine, when she came out and brought the water, she and Mr. Beadle stood there shouting at each other, both thinking the other was hard of hearing. They were so loud, some neighbors thought something was wrong. Anyway, they are all passed on now, but Mr. Stephens told me that as far as he knew, they never knew the difference, and he was not about to tell them. Thank you for letting me share a lighter moment about those that lived in the county, but have since passed on Sam Paris

    3. This information came from Johnie Lee about the RRTGS meeting tomorrow night. Sounds good, hope to see a bunch of y'all there. Cynthia The speaker for this month will be Kelvin Meyers, whose subject will be "The Hand That Rocked The Cradle Could Rule The World". His goal in this lecture is, that those attending will leave with a basic knowledge of sources created about and by women, and how to locate these sources. A professional genealogist for the last eighteen years, and an avid researcher-historian for the last twenty-eight years, Kelvin brings a great knowledge of social sciences, history, genealogy and some PI techniques to his work. The Dallas Public Library employed him for ten years in the Genealogy Department. Now, Blake and Blake, a company engaged in missing heir and adoption searches, employs him in the research field. A native of Crosby County, he has published two books on his home county; deed abstracts and a compilation of records, including, church, marriage, and census. For a fall of 2005 release, his third book will feature abstracts of the probate minutes. He is also abstracting the births, deaths, and marriages from the Semi-Weekly Farm News.

    3. Below is a e-mail from Marion's sister after she talked with M.L.'s wife, Suzanne from Mayo Clinic in Wisc. This is not genealogy but I think many of you may remember a mom and pop grocery store across the street from the Clarksville baseball field on the east side of town. It was "Lowe & Barry Grocery" Lowe is Buster Lowe, father of Marion. Marion and us boys spent a lot of time there when we were practicing for playing games of baseball. Marion and a few other of old gang are meeting at Dimple Mall about every morning for breakfast about 6 a.m.. Marion is not always there and I have never made it, but Eddie Pryor keeps me posted on there high level conference meeting <grin> Well, it isn't really a Mall, but that is what Eddie calls the grocery/station on Hwy 37 at Dimple and they do server breakfast and other meals. I do ask for your prayers for Marion. Jim G +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I just talked to Suzanne. The diagnosis of Amyloidosis was confirmed (it is NOT Cancer.) It is an abnormal protein that is being stored in the kidneys. It is only in the kidneys & not in the bone marrow or any other organ. This doctor has him on a list & estimates that it may take as much as 6 weeks for them to have a place for him for treatment. When he goes back for treatment, he will have his stem cells harvested & will then take a high dosage of chemo - 1/2 one day and the other 1/2 the next day. The third day they will give him back his stem cells. He would then be there 6 weeks or until all signs of infection has passed. Of course, this treatment has risks but the folks at Mayo Clinic know what to look for and how to treat it. He will continue to need your prayers. The doctor told them that overall Marion is in excellent physical condition. Please continue to pray. He and Suzanne are flying to Dallas early in the am. Thanks for all your love, concern and prayers. Love, Barbara

He dismantle the top floors of the house and numbered all parts of each room and then moved the bottom floors on a truck to Ft Worth. The house stayed parked outside of Ft Worth for sever weeks while permits were obtained in order to move it on into the city. It took Sonny several years to reconstruct the house but he did get the job done. Suzanne and I went buy to see it several years ago. He and his family lived in it for many years but now has sold it. 3. I just returned from Red River Co. last week! It was such a great trip. I visited Lone Star Cemetary where my great grandparents, grandparents, and mother are buried. DAVISON and CROW surnames. I have a few MALONE relatives buried there as well. There is a "cemetary working" every year there in October. Then I was able to go to Old Shamrock Cemetary. My great grandmother is buried there, Easter Alabama MCGUIRE. I found out while there my grandfather made the headstone. That made it that much more special. She died in 1902, so it's an old grave. I have other DAVISON relatives buried there as well. That cemetary has received a "historical marker". I don't know what requirements need to be met to receive that. Then I traveled on down the road to Bagwell......the little town Sharon spoke of. My MALONE family lived there in the 1950's. I found the nicest little man, Charlie Dodson......he bought the house my great grandmother lived in. I ask directions to find the house, not knowing it even still stood. He gave me directions.......and I made a few curves in the road to reach a house that perhaps I went in when I was only 4 years old. Drove on down the road a little, to turn around, and saw about 6 or 8 BUFFALO in a pen. Talk about "where the Buffalo roam....." well, my trip was great. I visited with people I'd never met that knew my grandparents. I live in Colorado now, but Texas and Red River Co. and Lamar Co. is still home to me. My surnames: CROW, DAVISON, MCGUIRE, DULANEY, SPARKS, MALONE, HOWELL, WILLIAMS. I also enjoy reading all the "happenings" in Red River Co. My sister still lives there, and has all her life. 3. It didn't have any rock on it when I rented it in the late 60s but someone may have remodeled it. I wish I'd gotten your e-mail yesterday. I went to a Hastings family reunion in Bagwell today and could have easily driven down that road and checked for you. I'll look next time I'm down there and let you know what it looks like now.. Sharon. ----- Original Message ----- From: "linda anderson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 10, 2005 8:46 PM Subject: Re: [TXREDRIV] Malone Sharon, A note from you below back in August: Now that I have been down that little road in Bagwell, can you tell me if the house with the rock porch is the old Malone homestead? I have pictures of the house in the 50's....and the porch is on the right end, looking at the house. So was the house with the rock on it. Of course, the rock could have been added anytime.........can you remember? I took pictures of it, and also the little road. They would have traveled that road many times...........Wesley, Richard, and Pearl, my great aunt and uncles. Thanks, Linda

I have two volumes of Neville's works, and I will look up the story. Thanks. Bob Merriman Sulphur Springs, Texas Hi Bob, Thanks so much for your reply. I have pictures of Hiram and Sarah Kennedy taken later in their lives. Phyllis

    2. Probably the reason that the wife's date of death was not on the tombstone is that the tombstone had been purchased and inscribed while both were still living. This was a practice for some people back then. Later, when Mrs. Thompson died, she was not buried with her husband in the Halesboro Cemetery and her side of the stone was never completed. 3. As for me, it is a pleasure and it certainly is a pleasure to have a man like Bob in our group with his knowledge. I don't have near as much time to spend on this computer as I use to, but I try to make good use of the time when I do. Bob, don't get scared off and go away because of all the questions.
