I have found a book compiled by Ava E. Mills, containing stories of women of early Texas who were interview in the late 1930's during the CCC program. One of those women was Sarah Elizabeth Roe, 1855-1946. Sarah's father was William Fletcher who died serving during the Civil war. Sarah married Montgomery Roe in 1873. She was born and lived her entire life one mile west of where Azle is now. She tells about living with her widowed mother in a one room log cabin, about the Indian scares and about her husband serving in the Texas Rangers. I will send a copy of these stories to anyone that is interested, unless overwhelmed with requests. The Fletchers and Hoggards of Azle are my direct kin and I will be glad to exchange information with anyone on these lines. Shirley
