Researching Speer family of Jack, Parker and Palo Pinto Cos. TX. John F. Speer, the father, died 1869 in Weatherford, Parker Co., TX and is buried in the Old Greenwood Cemetary. John's wife was named Jane (poss. a Jones). She was on the 1870census with James Arthur Speer, blind. Believe she died about 1872 when John's estate was settled by his sons and grandson. One son, James Arthur Speer, left Parker Co. in 1876 for McClellan Co., TX. I don't know what happened to him. My ggrandfather, Daniel, moved on to Palo Pinto Co., TX and then to O.T. in 1890s. Daniel's first wife was Elizabeth Sprout Brien b. in Logan co., KY. She came to TX with her widowed mother and sister, America Sale Speer who md John Carson, about 1845 with the Peter's Colony. Elizabeth died in 1886 in Palo Pinto Co. but I don't know where she is buried. Their mother, Catherine Perrin Brien md a Parsons but was soon widowed again and didn't remarry.Would like to know when she died and where she is buried. Another son, Benjamin Franklin Speer died in Jack Co., TX 1863 during the Civil War and his only surviving child, Henry Franklin Speer, was raised by Daniel.
