Got this off another list! Go check it out!!! WOW Rootsweb has added "Post-ems," a memo/explanatory space to the Social Security Death Index found at http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi When you access the Social Security Death Index through Rootsweb, you may post additions and corrections to index. You also may view what others have posted. This is a good place to add: maiden name spouse marriage date and place names of parents place of death date and place of burial names of children places of residence You may also provide correct information about dates of birth or death when the SSDI data is not correct. This also provides a link to you for others who are researching your family.
Kay sent this to me and I thought I would pass it along to the list! THanks Kay!! Dear Traci, The Catholic Branch of the Masonic Lodge is the Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Pythias is a different organization entirely. The Pythian Home in Weatherford is one of the only standing and still functioning homes left in the country. Downtown on the square there still stands an old building that was the early lodge of the Knights of Pythias, I think. It is quite a nice building with a "knight" in full armour crowning the top decor. Can't remember the date in the bricks, but I think it was around 1889. The Masonic Grand Lodge in Waco (P.O. Box 446, Waco, TX 76703) has index cards on all Masons, (past and present) in the state of Texas and has provided me with valuable clues as to my ancestors trek across Texas. Sometimes when I would lose one of them, the masonic card would help me relocate them. They kept excellent records, including their offices held, relocations, and date of death. I have tried Grand Lodges in other states but have not been as fortunate. I would think the Pythian Home (and archives) would have similar records of old members, but I have not had the occasion to use them. I do think there is a cemetery on the grounds of the Pythian Home somewhere. The director there is Peggy Hutton, and the phone number is (817) 599-9052 during regular business hours. Hope this info will help you, and perhaps some others as well. Kay Davis - Willow Park, TX
St Stephens Catholic Church has been here forever..... One of the first churches, 817-596-9585. There is no cemetery next to the church, and Im not sure if there is a catholic part in the cemeteries here but I do not think there is a seperate cemetery for the Catholics. I know there is a 'mason' type group that is Catholic here and I want to say its the Knights of the Pythian... I just cant remember... hope this helps... Please don't refer to me as an idiot....the fact that I have gone about having myself taken off their mailing list twice now and yet I seem to get 10-12 e mails a day from them is beyond my comprehension, I may have gone about this the wrong way, but the right way is getting me no where....

Good Afternoon Everyone, Am seeking information on the following family: Samuel L. Clark b. abt 1814 in Ohio or NY -- depends on census you look at d. aft 1880 - probably in Jack Co., Texas married 1835 in Coles Co., Ill to Isabel NEELY Clark - daug. of Charles NEELY & Jane MARTIN b. abt 1806 in Logan Co., Ky. children: Emma - 1837 - md. Nelson H. MARTIN Naomi - 1839 John Thomas - 1840 - md. Charity Ann HIGHTOWER Charles - 1844 Sarah A. - 1847 - md R. J. DOYLE Daniel James Edwin - 1849 - md. Mary Lucinda MILLER and possibly another child. Notes: Samuel Lee Clark - was the son of John CLARK and Anar GIBBS. At least that is the theory right now and it seems to be working out.... He married his brother's widow Isabel NEELY Clark. He is in the 1840 census of Shelby Co., Ill, the 1850 census of Dallas Co., Texas, and the 1880 census of Jack Co., Texas. And appears in tax rolls in Denton Co., Texas, Dallas Co., Texas, and Parker Co., Texas. He is listed as one of the early Baptist Ministers performing marriages in Dallas Co. Texas and Ellis Co., Texas. And is listed in the History of the Primitive Baptists in Texas as starting churches in the area. Isabel NEELY Clark married first Orange Clark, brother of John Thomas Clark. Isabel and Orange Clark has one daughter Jane who was then raised by John Thomas Clark and Isabel after they married. This family lived in New York, Ohio, Illinois, and Texas and descendants then moved to New Mexico, Arizona, and Oklahoma. Would love any assistance, corrections on this family and would love to share with any new "cousins" -- Thanks so much -- Emma
Good Afternoon Everyone, I am seeking information on the following family: John Thomas Clark - son of Samuel L. CLARK & Isabel NEELY b. 1840 in Moultrie Co., Illinois d. 1922 in New Mexico married - July 1866 Texas Charity Ann HIGHTOWER - daug. of Joshua HIGHTOWER & Martha WATKINS b. 1849 in Izard Co., Arkansas d. But since a fire destroyed records there I have not been able to find that information. John Thomas CLARK is in the 1850 census of Dallas Co., Texas, the 1860 census of Parker Co., Texas, the 1870 tax roll of Hood Co., Texas, the 1880 census of Coleman Co., Texas, the 1900 census of Sierra Co., New Mexico, and the 1910 census of Grant Co., New Mexico. He was a carpenter, a sheriff, and an ordained Baptist Minister and as you can tell -- the family moved a lot. Charity Ann Hightower is in the 1850 census of Izard Co., Arkansas, the 1860 census of Johnson Co., Texas, the 1880 census of Coleman Co., Texas, the 1900 census of Sierra Co., New Mexico, and the 1910 census of Grant Co., New Mexico. Members of this family lived in Illinois, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, & Arizona. Back in the 30's I think there was one. Cotton-Bratton Funeral Home and Fine Furinture. I always thought that was funny...I guess in a small town, you have to diversify to survive. Anyway, I was told that what a person dies in one county or state, and maybe have his funeral there, when he is buried in another county or state, the funeral home meets the body at the train (or whatever) and is taken to the cemetery straightaway for burial. However, if you relative lived in Weatherford, he probably had his service there. On my relatives, the death certificate stated where the place of burial was. Jan W.

Does anyone have any Smiths or Scotts in Parker Co. (1860's on)? Would like to get your information. Thanks, Sue M. Clarksville, TN
There are three funeral homes in Weatherford. Cotton-Bratton Galbreath-Pickard White's Cotton-Bratton has been around the longest, over 100 years. The Weatherford Public Library also has all back issues of the newspaper, The Weatherford Democrat and other newspapers that have come and gone. I have found that these have been an excellent way to find out where people are buried, who did the funeral, and relatives. Good luck.
