Anyone have connections to the Jamison/Jameson family. Frances Jameson, widow of ??? Jameson was in Parker Co in the 1880 Census with her step-daughter Henryetta. She was living next door to her father, Jonathan Hellums. I am interested to know who she was married to, but more especially if she remarried and what happened to Henryetta.

According to the Encyclopedia of South Carolina, the town (and the county) were named in honor of a Revolutionary War hero Captain John Newberry. Captain Newberry must not be a particularly well known hero, because a quick check of my favorite biographical sources does not turn him up. I was told by some one that this area was a great place to pick berries many years ago and that was how the place got its name. For a brief history of the college visit our website: http://www.newberry.edu/ We have a Special Collections that has as its mission the collection and preservation of materials relating to the college, the Lutheran Church in Newberry County and, to a lesser extent, the Lutheran Church in South Carolina. Marilyn, the correct link for the Woody information is as follows: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txwise/swoody.htm
Hi Marilyn, There is a good site with tons of Woody information in the Parker Co., TX section of rootsweb. I will send you the address. There is a seven page interview with J.J. Woody, the son of Samuel, and his life in Wise Co. J.J. gives a great insight into the life of the farmer and rancher of the late 1800's. There are also pictures of the Sam Woody cabin and other interesting things about one of the pioneers of the county. Like Tamara said, George Lee Dobbs, my gggrandfather, bought the old Sam Woody place when he came to Texas in 1858.
Hi Gang, Enjoyed a day of researching in the Parker County Records Building and at the Library in Weatherford. I was searching for the marriage of Alice Walker. She was in the 1900 Census of Wise County (Boonsville, Beat 8) and had disappeared by 1910 from this family. Her mother showed one additional child had died in the 1910 Census from the 1900, and family tradition said Alice had died early in childbirth. I have found Alice Walker marriage to J.W. Hobson on July 4, 1901, performed by T.C. Kuykendall, M.G. I have a burial for John W. Hobson , born 1877, died 1955 in the Poolville Cemetery. but no sign of Alice Walker Hobson in any cemetery in Wise or Parker County. Anyone out there with Hobson ties willing to share information to resolve this? I will be searching the 1910 and 1920 Census and other records for John and to see if a child survived, as well as a new search of the death records in Austin for Alice, now that I have a married name. Thanks for any help. La Darla Walker Keith ladarlak@aol.com or ladarlak@ntws.net
There are extensive Woody pictures & stories at my Wise County web site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txwise/wise2.htm You might want to check there for clues. La Darla
Hi Marilyn, i feel that your Woody came to the Springtown area in North Parker CO. There are at least 2 Woody families located there on original land grants. Marilyn, My ancestor, George Lee Dobbs, settled in Parker County TX in 1858. In 1859, he bought the Sam Woody place. This area was in the Woods Beat in 1870 (and 1880, I think) census. It is located north of Weatherford, on the old Springtown Rd, near Friendship Baptist Church. Lots of my kin are buried up there and I am patiently (!) awaiting the Parker Co Gen Soc.'s release of the Northeast cemeteries - Your James Woody may be buried up there as well. This is for Pat in Oklahoma: Here is the Boone posting you asked for. I pick it up where my family history takes on the "undetermined connection" to Benjamin Boone, son of Jonathan Boone, son of Squire Boone. My great grandfather and his siblings are the sources. Jonathan moved around alot, had several wives, and apparently some undocumented children. He died in 1808 near the Wabash River and is buried in Indiana (other sources say Illinois). One of Howard's (see below) brothers was a minister for years in Fort Worth, and he told the same history. Benjamin Boone (b. 1760 NC - d. 1837-40 TN) m. Rebecca Davis. Their son = William Boone (b. 1790 NC - d. ?) m. Sallie Howard (b.1806 TN - d. ?). William & Sallie's son = Howard Boone (b. 22 Oct 1824, Flat Creek, TN - d. in TX where he moved in 1873) m. Elizabeth Floyd (b. 11 Nov. 1824 TN - d. 20 Sept. 1900 Tarrant Co. TX). Howard's fifth son, William (b. 25 Aug. 1853 '15 miles from Fayetteville, AR - d. 7 June 1937 Parker Co., TX) m. Amanda Jane Freeman (b. 28 Jan. 1859 - d. 8 June 1938) on 22 Sept. 1876 in Ft. Worth, TX. William & Amanda's children = Erin Mavorne (b. 11 May 1879 - 7 Sept. 1957) m. Joseph Bunch in Veal Station, TX. Ernest Justice (b. 5 July 1882 - d. 31 Aug. 1927) m. Mary Mallory in Palestine, TX. Inez Cleone (b. 12 Oct. 1884 - d. 5 Sept. 1933) m. Theodore Yarbrough "in Dallas" ??? (These are my grandparents). Lois (b. 1886 - d. unknown in childbirth) m. 26 Dec. 1907 to "Doc" Lancaster. Jerome Haroldson ( b. 15 Dec. 1888 - d. 10 Nov. 1946) m. Mary Ellen Hamm in Waco, TX. Floyd (b. 1 May 1892 - d. 26 Jan 1969) m. unknown was separated or divorced. All of these children were born in Weatherford, Parker Co., and William and Amanda, Theodore and Inez are buried there. I don't know about the others. I have Theodore and Inez's descendents, but won't post here as some grandchildren are living. I hope you can glean something from this. If you have connections with any of these names, I'd love to hear. I'm particularly curious about the "Cleone" and the "Haroldson" and the "Mavorne" given names. William was the first teacher in the old Bedford School when it was begun in Tarrant County. He had been well educated at his uncle Daniel Boone's (a descendent not THE Daniel) school in Arkansas.

The birth records was not reported until after 1903 and then it would be doubtful to find a birth record until after 1930. Ask for a delayed birth records on your ancestor in Austin. Janna

Carolyn, Fort Worth is in Tarrant County. Tarrant County adjoins Parker County, and is a lot more populated than Parker County. You may get more help if you send this post to mailing list for that county. Dana > Could someone help me find > the birth information for two brothers Fred and Joseph > Curtis born in Fort Worth.
Hi List I've been a subscriber for a few months. This is my first time with a request. Could someone help me find the birth information for two brothers Fred and Joseph Curtis born in Fort Worth. Fred was born December of 1884 and Joseph was born in October of 1886. Their parents were George and Mary Ann Curtis. I would like to find out what their birth certificates say. I would also like to know if there were any other children born to them during the time they stayed in Fort Worth from about 1881 to 1890. Or any other information that could be found about them. George was a stone mason and I don't know why they moved from Michigan during this period and then around 1890 moved back to Michigan. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Carolyn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com
Am about to give up searching for my Amanda Jane Freeman and her father "A. J.". I have her after marriage and during her lifetime in Weatherford, but know only this previous to 1876. She was born 1859 'north of Longview' and the family moved to Springtown. Her father served in the Civil War. That's it! I cannot find reference to her mother or any siblings, even in her obit. Possibly her mother moved alone to Springtown or died after Amanda's birth. If her father was in the War, she may have lived with relatives. She married at 17. What I need is a 1860 or 1870 census reference to Amanda Freeman in Springtown. Can anyone help. I have Yarbrough and Boone info if anyone wants me to post it. Thanks, Jan
