John, I looked in the Index to the Indian Depredation Case Files and found a listing for a Clem Hightower (he filed case number 3526). See my web page for details on these files at http://shell.rmi.net/~pacarter/depredations.html There was also a Freeling Shadrack Hightower who married Sarah Jane Terry. Freeling was killed by Indians on Feb 21, 1867 near the Jack/Young county line. They had a child named Freeling who was born after the death of his father. Sarah remarried several times. My relations are through the Terry line in the area and I collected the above info just to help sort things out. I hope this helps. Paul Carter Arvada, CO

Good Afternoon Everyone, I am seeking information on the following family: John Thomas Clark - son of Samuel L. CLARK & Isabel NEELY b. 1840 in Moultrie Co., Illinois d. 1922 in New Mexico married - July 1866 Texas Charity Ann HIGHTOWER - daug. of Joshua HIGHTOWER & Martha WATKINS b. 1849 in Izard Co., Arkansas d. Jan. 1931 New Mexico children: Martha Isabel - 1867 Mary Jane - 1869 James Neely - 1871 twins - died as infants - 1874 John Edwin - 1875 Sarah Luann - 1877 Charles Franklin - 1879 twins - died as infants - 1881 Richmond Owen - 1883 Lillian Mae - 1885 Chariety Ellen - 1887 William Harvey - 1889 Notes: John Thomas CLARK and Charity Ann HIGHTOWER were probably married in Parker Co., Texas. But since a fire destroyed records there I have not been able to find that information. John Thomas CLARK is in the 1850 census of Dallas Co., Texas, the 1860 census of Parker Co., Texas, the 1870 tax roll of Hood Co., Texas, the 1880 census of Coleman Co., Texas, the 1900 census of Sierra Co., New Mexico, and the 1910 census of Grant Co., New Mexico. He was a carpenter, a sheriff, and an ordained Baptist Minister and as you can tell -- the family moved a lot. Charity Ann Hightower is in the 1850 census of Izard Co., Arkansas, the 1860 census of Johnson Co., Texas, the 1880 census of Coleman Co., Texas, the 1900 census of Sierra Co., New Mexico, and the 1910 census of Grant Co., New Mexico. Members of this family lived in Illinois, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, & Arizona. Any assistance, corrections, etc greatly appreciated -- Would love to share information with "cousins" -- thanks -- Emma
Good Afternoon Everyone, Am seeking information on the following family: Samuel L. Clark b. abt 1814 in Ohio or NY -- depends on census you look at d. aft 1880 - probably in Jack Co., Texas married 1835 in Coles Co., Ill to Isabel NEELY Clark - daug. of Charles NEELY & Jane MARTIN b. abt 1806 in Logan Co., Ky. children: Emma - 1837 - md. Nelson H. MARTIN Naomi - 1839 John Thomas - 1840 - md. Charity Ann HIGHTOWER Charles - 1844 Sarah A. - 1847 - md R. J. DOYLE Daniel James Edwin - 1849 - md. Mary Lucinda MILLER and possibly another child. Notes: Samuel Lee Clark - was the son of John CLARK and Anar GIBBS. At least that is the theory right now and it seems to be working out.... He married his brother's widow Isabel NEELY Clark. He is in the 1840 census of Shelby Co., Ill, the 1850 census of Dallas Co., Texas, and the 1880 census of Jack Co., Texas. And appears in tax rolls in Denton Co., Texas, Dallas Co., Texas, and Parker Co., Texas. He is listed as one of the early Baptist Ministers performing marriages in Dallas Co. Texas and Ellis Co., Texas. And is listed in the History of the Primitive Baptists in Texas as starting churches in the area. Isabel NEELY Clark married first Orange Clark, brother of John Thomas Clark. Isabel and Orange Clark has one daughter Jane who was then raised by John Thomas Clark and Isabel after they married. This family lives in New York, Ohio, Illinois, and Texas and descendants then moved to New Mexico, Arizona, and Oklahoma. Would love any assistance, corrections on this family and would love to share with any new "cousins" -- Thanks so much -- Emma

Thank you. I will look forward to your articles especially if they mention Carr, Mills Morgan or Wright.
Happily the Weatherford Democrat has given me permission to put copies of articles about the history of Weatherford on the Parker Co., TXGenWeb Project site. I have put several up at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txparker/history/ This new section includes: Firsts of Parker County Attorneys in 1906 Jefferson Weatherford Church of Christ History Double Log Cabin I plan to add other articles in the near future. Hope you find mention of your ancestor on one of these pages. Lela
Hello everyone, I am sending this to the Young, Hunt and the Parker Co. Texas list because my TATE line was in Hunt County as well as Grayson, Kaufman, Cass, and surrounding counties. I am in hopes that someone will read something here that will help them remember anything about my line of TATES or in better hopes that someone might be a connection. I have been unable to find any living TATE descendants other than my dad and my siblings, from this line of TATE's. I have found a cousin that is from the Josie TATE & B.T. DENTON line ( well actually she found me ) and that is wonderful, but isn't there some TATE lines somewhere ? I cannot for the life of me figure out where the TATE family went to in Oklahoma. William TATE married Mary COCKES. They had all their children in Greenville, Hunt Co., Tx. except for their last son Raymond, and he was born somewhere in Oklahoma. William TATE died in 1899 in Ok. and Mary COCKES TATE returned to Hunt Co. because she and all six chilren were on the 1900 census. Ernest TATE died in 1920 at a young age. I do not know if he married. Frank TATE married Aussie BRYANT, but I have been unable to find them. That leaves Robert Winford ( or Winfred ) TATE and Raymond TATE. Where did they go ? Who did they marry? If someone has even so much as a hint, I would love to hear from you... Thank you so much, and sorry this is so long. Also sorry for the double posting of the Denton search. Hello, This list has been quiet for sometime now. Hopefully this can get something going. Taken from the Tarrant & Parker County Tx. Book from 1895: W.E. TATE, the well-known citizen and popular grocer of Weatherford, Tx., was born in Monroe Co., east Tn. on the 24th day of Dec, 1849, and is the son of John TATE, a native of east Tn., born on the 29th day of Feb, 1796. The father was ordained a Presbyterian minister early in life, and did much ministerial work in both middle and est. Tn. He removed to Tx. in the fall of 1858, and n 1860 purchased a farm in the northeast corner of Collin Co., where his widow still resides. He continued his ministerial work in Collin, Grayson and adjoining counties until his death on Jan. 6, 1869. The TATE family are of Scotch-Irish descent. John TATE was thrice married. His first wife was a Miss McDONALD, and by her he had three children: Margaret TATE: deceased at this time Nancy TATE: deceased at this time James TATE: deceased at this time His second wife was Miss Jane WEIR, and by her he had one son: George W. TATE: now deceased His third marriage was to Miss Cynthia HAMILTON, and to this union the following children were born: Robert H. TATE: deceased Samuel W. TATE: deceased Mary E. TATE: John H. TATE: deceased Martha C. TATE : deceased W. E. TATE: Thomas C. TATE: deceased David B. TATE Three of the eight children and the widow of the last marriage surviving him at this time. W.E. TATE , our subject, began the grocery and livery business at Graham, Young Co., Tx. in 1878, at which he met with success. In 1880 he bean the grocery business in Parker Co., Tx. and there continued for two years. The following eighteen months he spent in Mineral Wells. He was next engaged in the stock business in Mitchell county and Colorado City, Texas, until about 1884, when he met with serious business and financial reverses, losing all the capital he possessed. He was then compelled to begin again, and accordingly secured a position as salesman in the store of A.F. STARR & Company of Weatherford, with which firm he remained for about five years. Following this he spent two years in the same capacity with Dan D. Hartnett, grocer of Weatherford. In 1890, having accumulated sufficient capital to again embark in business, Mr. TATE opened a grocery store of his own in Weatherford, at which he has since continued, meeting with most gratifying success. He carries a stock of groceries amounting to about $5,000.00, and his annual sales reach into the tens of thousands. Mr. TATE was married in Kentucky Town, Grayson Co.,Texas, on December 24, 1873, to Miss Cynthia BROWN, who was born Dec. 11, 1855. Her father John BROWN, came to Texas from Arkansas, and was a farmer by occupation. Mr. and Mrs. TATE have three children: Mary E. TATE William E. TATE Annie Lizzy TATE Mr. TATE is a stockholder in the First National Bank of Weatherford, and owns good residence property. Mr. TATE is a self-made man. He was given a good education, but since leaving school has made his own way in the world unaided, and has depended upon his own abilities and industry and energy. - -------------------------------------------- If "anyone", knows "anything", about "any" of the above TATE's. Please contact me. I will be happy to exchange information !! Hopefully this will help someone also....
