> Does anyone know where I would find a cemetary in Christian Texas if someone was buried there in 1900? I know Christian Tx. was a very small town. The town, I dont think is there any more. > Barbara > Was this community in Palo Pinto County? I found the following in the online version of the Handbook of Texas: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/index.new.html CHRISTEN, TEXAS. Christen was at a site just north of what is now Laredo off Interstate Highway 35 in south central Webb County. The settlement was named for Joseph Christen, who patented land in the area in 1840. The area was gradually absorbed by Laredo, and in 1990 only the Christen Junior High School and a few older homes marked the site of the former settlement. Christopher Long
Barbara, Christian, Palo Pinto County, Texas, is shown on a U S Atlas of 1890 as being just south of the Jack County line about half way west-east across the top part of the county and nearly due northwest of Mineral Wells. It was north of what is now the town of Graford. A current county highway map shows a cemetery in that vicinity. State hwy 206 goes north out of Graford. At about 3.5 miles north of town the highway turns northeast. About 0.8 miles further, short of where the highway turns northwest, the cemetery is on the left (west) side of the road. From the map, it appears that an electric transmission line passes right over the cemetery and that just beyond the cemetery a secondary road turns off to the right. I don't know if this is the cemetery you seek, but it appears to be in just the right place. Someone on this list should know the present name of the cemetery. Cheers, Jim
Jim, Thanks for that description. I have looked for Christian TX and not had any luck. No connection for me, just trying to solve my curiosity and trying to help her.
