    3. I am researching James A. Wilson who was born in Cedar Co., Missouri in 1859 son of James Wilson and Mary E. Morton. James Wilson died and Mary Morton Wilson married Alexander Eason. James A. Wilson married Ora Evans in Jack Co., TX 10-18-1882. Alexander Eason and family were in Palo Pinto Co. and enumerated in the 1880 census. They later were in Jack Co. I am not sure why James A. and Ora were married in Jack Co. Possibly they were both working there. I believe Ora was the daughter of A. B. and Louisa Evans of Anderson Co. in 1880 census. Family tradition is that James A. Wilson went to Mexico with John M. Eason, his half-brother, and neither were heard of again. However, records indicate that John M. Eason was found guilty of forgery, possible over a land dispute. He was convicted on 12 Jan 1887 and while he was awaiting appeal he escaped. (All of this has to be documented and I am working on that.) My guess is that John (who was younger than James) and James Wilson teamed up and went to Mexico. John Eason was married Ella Roberts in 1886 also in Jack Co. but they divorced in the early 1890s. I assume she remarried. It would be helpful to learn the name of her second husband. I have not found that Ora Wilson remarried or divorced James, or perhaps had him declared dead. That still remains a possibility. If anyone has information on any of these families, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Connie Bradbury

    3. For the record, that's a good resource, but those listings are often 2 or more years old; an actual old-fashioned analog phone book is usually the most up-to-date resource other than dialing information. In the case of a lady who probably hasn't moved in many years, I suppose the point is moot, though. :-) Larry > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim McMillen [mailto:jimmcmillen@earthlink.net] > Sent: Sunday, December 30, 2001 7:27 PM > To: TXPALOPI-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Look-up request > > Donna, > > Try > > <www.switchboard.com> > > for numbers anywhere in the country. > > Cheers, Jim

    3. Larry, Here is your Emma with parents in 1880. I have not found Thomas. There was a Stinson family in PP Co 1880, but no Thomas listed with them. Think his birth date of 1876 could be a little early? Also, on the 1900 census where Tom is enumerated with his wife and child, at the bottom of the page is a Marion Snow who is listed as step son to Luther Warren. Wife is Mittie b MS 1850. She has been married twice, 4ch born with only 2 living. I believe this is the mother to your Emma. In between Thomas and Mittie, is Andrew Klenke and wife Sarah. They are part of my family. I am descended from Thomas Lonzo Stinson (1876-????), a farmer and lay preacher who married Emma Mae Snow (1878-???) in about 1896. They're my great-grandparents. 1. "Old" vs. "New" Gordon Cemetery
    2. Larry McQueary
    3. Hi, My grandparents and great-grandparents, as well as a few other relatives, are buried in the Old Gordon Cemetery, in Gordon. I have long wondered why there is an "Old" Gordon Cemetery and a "New" Gordon Cemetery? They're basically right next to each other, so I assume there must be a story there. Why wasn't the "Old" Gordon Cemetery simply expanded at some point? I note that although the Old Gordon Cemetery has some older graves, there is significant overlap in the dates between the Old and the New. Anyway, any explanation, history, or pointers anyone can give would be most helpful. Thanks, Larry McQueary

    3. Barbara, Christian, Palo Pinto County, Texas, is shown on a U S Atlas of 1890 as being just south of the Jack County line about half way west-east across the top part of the county and nearly due northwest of Mineral Wells. It was north of what is now the town of Graford. A current county highway map shows a cemetery in that vicinity. State hwy 206 goes north out of Graford. At about 3.5 miles north of town the highway turns northeast. About 0.8 miles further, short of where the highway turns northwest, the cemetery is on the left (west) side of the road. From the map, it appears that an electric transmission line passes right over the cemetery and that just beyond the cemetery a secondary road turns off to the right. I don't know if this is the cemetery you seek, but it appears to be in just the right place. Someone on this list should know the present name of the cemetery. Cheers, Jim

I found the following in the online version of the Handbook of Texas: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/index.new.html CHRISTEN, TEXAS. Christen was at a site just north of what is now Laredo off Interstate Highway 35 in south central Webb County. The settlement was named for Joseph Christen, who patented land in the area in 1840. The area was gradually absorbed by Laredo, and in 1990 only the Christen Junior High School and a few older homes marked the site of the former settlement. Christopher Long

Louise Poe Dillahunty. Ellen, as she was known to her family and to her aunt, uncle, and cousin who brought her to Texas within a month or two before her marriage, was the daughter of William and Clarissa Draper Snelling. This William, who was murdered in the town of Snelling, California, in 1857, was a geandson of William and Sarah Scott Snelling. Buck died in 1921; Ella died in 1940; both are buried in the Higgins Cemetery in Lipscomb County, Texas. Beulah Dillahunty (1874-1968), Buck and Ella's second child married, in 1893, A. Lee Gragg (1866-1935). Both are buried at Higgins, Lipscomb County, Texas. Beulah and Lee had seven children that I know of, of whom Vada was the third. She married John Hughes and they had at least one child, Euola Hughes, born 6 Mar 1930 in Lipscomb County. Sorry, that's all I know about the Hughes family, other than that Vada died 19 Jun 1952 and is buried at the Higgins Cemetery. I presume you are the Lisa Eggleston who is listed in a Lipscomb county history as one of the great-grandchildren of Lee and Beulah Gragg.
