TXGenWebbers, First, I will apologize for you receiving more than one copy, if you belong to more than one of the lists I host. Since the 4th of December several people or "someone" has been subbing to all my county lists and within minutes or hours posting either a list of links or a "glowing" report about a new genealogy research service that has apparently just put a website at http://www.imagin.net/~tracers/ soliciting business for people needing Texas research done. This is a commercial site and the first visit I made there showed nothing free at all that had anything to do with Texas. I also noticed that these same postings were popping up on several lists that I belong in Texas that are not my own. Several days later I noted that a "very" small piece of a Texas census had been started and a "under construction" sign for that section. That has since been removed or, at least, I couldn't find it again. After receiving several private complaints, I decided to do some checking and received quite a SHOCK. The first "clue" was that Brenda Hay tracers@mailcity.com subbed then unsubbed from JASPER-D on December 24, 1998 4:01 AM and Jean Casteel genie1@mailcity.com subbed to JASPER-D on December 24, 1998 4:03 AM...... Just 2 minutes later!! The strange part was these postings, though grouped closely together, were under several different names that had never posted before. They turned out to be new subs. As we all know, these county lists are for posting information, queries, etc. as it specifically relates to each county. They are not for posting general links. Thinking that the poster might be a "newbie" I wrote privately to a couple asking their specific connection to the county. It really didn't take long to begin to put the pieces of this puzzle together but with the holidays I had delayed further investigation. What I discovered disturbed me greatly. I sent stern messages to each poster & to Becky Smesler Hay and after several exchanges of me asking Becky to explain the above subbing & unsubbing she told me she was "too busy for all this foolishness". Due to the continued postings about the "problem" I am presenting my findings on a webpage as it is FAR too complicated for email presentation. If all this can be explained away, I will send an apology to each and every person involved and to each Texas maillist. I have stated my opinion on the pages...... YOU DECIDE YOURS!! http://lest-we-forget.com/tracers/index.htm PS: If you feel that this is important enough for forwarding to any other lists to which you might belong or mentioning the URL, please feel free to do so.
