    1. [TXORANGE-L] McGee Family
    2. Thomas Knight
    3. I am looking for descendants of Charles A. and Blanche McGee who were living in Orange, TX, in 1922. If any of you have access to cemetery or other Orange Co., TX, records, I would appreciate your checking for McGees for me. I do not know that this couple died in Orange TX. I don't know where they died, or what became of their children, or other members of this family. The most recent information I have is from the 1922 obituary of Charles's father which states he was of Orange, TX. Please read on and see if you can offer any help. I'd be most appreciative. I'm writing from England and so am a long way away! ******************************************************************** The family I'm after first lived in Waelder, Gonzales Co., TX. William Wesley McGee (1848-1922) and CAroline L. Wilson (1844-1930) both died in Waelder. They had five children who lived to adulthood and four who survived William. I don't have Caroline's obituary, so I don't know what it says. The children were: 1. Rossie McGee (1878-1971), m. William Campbell. No issue. 2. Nannie McGee (July, 1880 -- aft. 1922), m. T. L. Steubing (c. 1875 -- ). They were in Gonzales County in 1900 and 1910 and in San Antonio, Bexar County, in 1920. A cousin recalls that she lived (and probably died) in San Antonio. She was living in San Antonio in 1922 when her father died. The census shows only two children: 1. Exa B. Steubing (c. 1899 -- ). 2. Thomas Steubing (c. 1910 -- ). 3. Charles A. McGee (July 1881 TX -- aft. 1922, ORANGE, TX), m. c. 1905, Blanche [----] (c. 1883, OH -- aft. 1920). Charles was in Hardin Co., TX, in 1910 and in Wichita Co., TX, in 1920 but his father's 1922 obituary says he was then of Orange, TX. He evidently got around, so I have no idea where he died, or if it was even in TX. Based on the census, he had these kids, who evidently were living with him in ORANGE, TX, in 1922: 1. William McGee (1907 -- ). 2. Alice McGee (1908 -- ). 3. James Patrick McGee (c. 1912 -- ). 4. George McGee (c. 1913 -- ). 5. Eugene McGee (c. 1916 -- ). 6. Leonard McGee (c. 1918 -- ). It's possible that Charlie stayed in Orange, TX, and died there, but he could've gone anywhere! I think TX has an index to early death certificates, so that might provide a clue. 4. Myrt McGee (Aug., 1883 -- bet. 1910 and 1920). The 1900 census shows him as a SON. The 1910 census indicates that Caroline still had five children living, so he must have been alive then. He is not mentioned in his father's 1922 obituary which names four children. 5. Etta May McGee (Oct., 1886 -- ), m. Tom Johnson. I couldn't find them in the census, but her father's 1922 obituary said they were of El Dorado, Arkansas. No information as to who her children were, if any. ******************************************************************* I would appreciate any help anyone can offer on the descendants of W. W. and Caroline Wilson McGee and especially on Charles A. McGee family of Orange, TX. Sincerely, Danny Knight.
