Dear List, I'm interested in tracing my MOORE line both backwards and finding out about any descendants of my father's half-siblings; the few surviving members of the latter group lived in Port Arthur when I was a young child. They are almost certainly in my paternal grandfather�s line as they all come from a manuscript page handed down to me which appears to be the flyleaf torn from a book. My grandfather, Green Berry MOORE, was born on September 08, 1848, eventually lived in Orange, TX, and was drowned in a storm off the Texas coast on September 12, 1897. I have not yet traced his point of origin but I am getting some suggestive clues from Virginia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Here are the list of names and birth dates from the manuscript: Jesse C. MOORE b. 23 Feb. 1792 Governor Washington MOORE b. 7 Nov. 1820 Emily Caroline DOWELL b. 27 March 1824 Andrew Jackson MOORE b. 12 Jan. 1828 Nancy Josephine COOK b. 5 May 1830 Nelson Lafayette MOORE b. 1 Dec. 1832 I believe GB Moore is tied to/ descended from the marriage of Jesse C. Moore (b. Feb. 22, 1797 possibly in North Carolina) and Alley Moore (b. 1792, again possibly in North Carolina). They were apparently mulitply cousins, sharing descent from Jesse Moore, Sr. and Elijah Stone. I identified a very extensive and apparently well-researched genealogy on them while searching the World Family Tree CD's for my set of names from the manuscript sheet; finding corresponding names and birth dates in both sources for Jesse C. and Alley was what set me off on this quest to find their offspring, whom I assume tie in with my Green Berry Moore. They are reported to have moved to Tennesee, where they drop off the World Family Tree chart I found them on with no descendants known. Alley's father was Jesse Moore, Jr. (b. Albemarle Co., Va., July 19, 1768, d. June 25, 1854, Caldwell Co., NC) and her mother was Elizabeth Stone (married, Oct. 30, 1788). Jesse C.'s father was Daniel M. Moore (b. Albemarle Co., Va., Dec. 12, 1764, d. Oct. 11, 1845, Globe Valley, NC) and his mother was Rachel Stone (married, Dec. 24, 1785). Census information virtually confirms that the other people on my manuscript list were the Jesse-Alley Moore children, and that they were indeed in Tenn: In the 1850 TN census index there is a Polk Co.,TN listing for the followingfamily listed as MORE, but [a correspondent] believe[s] this is the same couple Jesse C. and Alley MOORE: Jesse C. More is listed as age 55, Alley age 57, Jackson age 21, Nancy Jane age 19, Nelson age 19 , 433-444.POLK CO., TN. It certainly appears that this is the proper family, with the names and ages that would correspond with my manuscript list.
