    1. Bailey Martin b. 1796 NC

    3. I descend from William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, found in the 1850 census at Rockingham Co NC, later in the 1860 and 1870 census at Henderson Co TN. Finally, about 1878 his descendants and his widow moved to Navarro Co TX. According to the Navarro County Texas History, Vol. 2, James Nathaniel Martin was the cousin of Geroge Wesley Martin. Since George Wesley Martin b. 1849 Rockingham Co NC was the son of William M. Martin b. 1826 NC and Mary M. Young b. 1825 NC, that would mean James Nathaniel Martin b. 1836 NC was the son of the brother of William M. Martin b. 1826 NC. I searched the 1850 census at Rockingham Co NC, and find only one name which could be James Nathaniel Martin b. 1836 NC, that is in the following family group: Bayly Martin, 53, b. NC, Farmer Isabella Martin, 53, b. NC Elizabeth Martin 25, b. NC Emily Martin , 21, b. NC William T. Martin, 19, b. NC, Laborer J.W. Martin, 16, b. NC, Laborer James Martin, 13, b. NC M.F. Martin, 12, NC (female) E.C. Martin, 9, b. NC (female) I believe the above James Martin is in fact James Nathaniel Martin b. 1836 NC, who later is found in the 1870 census at Henderson Co TN, along side his Uncle William M. Martin. Also this James Nathaniel Martin is found in the 1880 census at Navarro Co TX along side the descendants of William M. Martin. It is apparent, that James N. Martin and family, George Wesley Martin and family and Mary M. Martin, and family all moved from Henderson Co TN to Navarro Co TX about 1878. They had all lived in Henderson Co TN from 1854 thru 1878. They lived the Civil War years in Henderson Co TN. Henderson Co TN voted to fight on the Union side in the War, and I have found a James N. Martin listed for Union Army in the 12th TN Cavalry, Company I. I do NOT know if this is the same man. When they got to Navarro Co they lived in Retreat and in Corsicana areas. In Lowe's United Methodist Church Cemetery, on Hwy 87, between Williamburg and Reidsville, NC, lies buried the Bailey Martin family of the 1850 census. Bailey Martin b. 3-29-1796 d. 9-25-1870 Isabel Martin b. 5-8-1796 d. 7-15-1866 (w/o Bailey) Alexander W. Martin b. 1-20-1866 d. 8-3-1894 Mary Nannie Roberts Martin b. 7-11-1867 d. 8-28-1929 (w/o A. W. Martin) John W. Martin b. 8-27-1833 d. 7-16-1912 (s/o Bailey) Bettie E. Martin b. 9-15-1839 d. 6-29-1917 (w/o John W.) J.T. Martin b. 11-19-1860 d. 8-20-1891 (s/o John W. +Bettie) Lesley M. Martin b. 12-30-1886 d. 10-8-1887 (s/o J.T. amd Alice V. Martin) William Thomas Martin b. 12-17-1830 d. 5-13-1907 (s/o Bailey) Fannie A. Martin b. 8-17-1834 d. 3-11-1902 (w/o W.T. Martin) From the Cemetery records above, it appears that James Nathaniel Martin went to live near his Uncle William M. Martin in Henderson Co TN about the time of his father's death. I have NOT found a record for the death of William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, however the Navarro County Texas History Book, Vol 2, say he died in 1870. If this is true, both brothers Bailey and William Martin both died in Summer of 1870. Perhaps this is what caused James Nathaniel Martin to live near the widow Mary M. Young Martin in Henderson Co TN, to help her with her family of young children. I would appreciate hearing from anyone related to any of these persons. I am Lilly, d/o Joe, s/o Joe, s/o Joe, s/o William M. Martin b. 1826 NC. Best regards, Lilly Martin
