Thomas William Crews, Sr., 83, died March 17, 2005 in Alice, Texas. Tom was the youngest of four children born to Rebecca and Syd Crews on July 9, 1921 in Navarro, Texas. After graduating from Corsicana High School, he attended Texas College of Mines in El Paso (presently UTEP) where he played football. Tom enlisted in the Army Air Corp (Now the Air Force) at the eruption of World War II, and was stationed primarily in England. He flew 13 missions over Germany as a tail gunner of a B17 bomber. At the end of the war, Tom returned to the States and graduated form the University of Texas in Austin. There he met and later married Dorothy Chernosky on June 24, 1950. The oilfield attracted Tom to Alice where he owned and operated Crews Wells Service. He became involved in various businesses, but his primary interest was raising and breeding world class Santa Gertrudis cattle. Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, his parents, and siblings. He is survived by his son, Thomas W. Crews, Jr. and wife Terri of Alice; daughters, Camille Mealy and husband Chip of Houston, and Claire Keliehor and husband Bob of Alice. He had nine wonderful grandchildren whom he cherished and adored: Taylor, Trey, Tate and Taryn Crews; Martha Claire, John and Clay Mealy; and Ray and Christine Keliehor. Above all, Tom loved his God, his country, and his family. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Alice, Texas.
