    1. [TXNAVARR] Martin Family Update
    2. Lilly
    3. This is NEW information just found: William Martin, b. about 1820, give or take 5 years, born in NC. He died between 1880 and 1869, either in TX or TN. He married Mary Young b. 1825 NC, both of her parents were born NC. William and Mary had 2 children in NC: Nathaniel Martin b. 1837 NC and George Wesley Martin b. 1850 NC. Then the entire Martin family moved to TN and had the following children: Caroline Martin b. 8-22-1854 TN; Basley Martin b. 1865 TN; Joseph Allen Martin b. 1867 TN and Margaret Martin b. 1869 TN. Sometime between 1869 and 1880 the entire Martin family moved to Navarro Co., TX. The father Willian is dead as of 1880 census, his wife Mary is shown as a widow. Mary is surrounded by the households of her 2 married sons: Nathaniel and George Wesley Martin, and as of 1880 she still has 4 children still at home. There is an Edward Martin b. 1850 NC, both parents born NC who is also nearby, and may be a son of Mary Young Martin as well. This Martin family begins in NC as of 1820 approx, then as of 1854 they are in TN, then as of 1880 they are in Navarro Co TX. It sounds to me as though this Martin family is following an Indian migration pattern, similar to the Cherokee Indian tribe of NC migration to Western areas. (migration/removal) My older brother told me we are "Oklahoma Indians". But perhaps his story is such because my Father was born in Oklahoma, but his father was born in TX, and his father in TN, and his father in NC. Perhaps the "Oklahoma Indian" ancestry story is referring to a "North Carolina Indian " ancestry, which came west eventually. I have not begun to search for NC or TN Cherokee Indian records, but thought I would let everyone know I will be doing that , but I need help and advice from any Native American Martin researchers who might give me some pointers, based on my ancestry here told. The other possiblity is, that my Martin line has no Native American ancestry, and we only followed the same migration route as the Cherokee from NC. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin, d/o Billy Joe Martin b. OK, s/o Joe Alfred Martin b. TX, s/o Joe Allen Martin b. TN, s/o William Martin b. NC and Mary Young b. 1825 NC.
