    3. Hi List, Does anyone have a 1900 Census Index for Navarro County to see if a William Augustus "Gus" Philips/Phillips shows up on the list? My G-Grandfather, William Augustus "Gus" Phillips, died in Blooming Grove, (Navarro Co), TX on Oct 05, 1901. I can find my G-Grandmother, Harriet Josephine (Colbert) Phillips, widow, in the 1910 & 1920 Navarro County Census but cannot seem to find her or "Gus" in the 1900 Census 1910========================================================================== Listed Apr 28, 1910 Navarro Co, TX Census, District 93 Blooming Grove, Image 19 PHILLIPS, Josephine Head 50 AL Widow Farmer Total children 6, 6 living " , Willie A. Widow AL Matron ....( age should be 60) ============================================================================= I have gone through the 1900 Navarro County Census twice but did not find them. There is no Index for the 1900 Census so it has been page to page looking. (The Census Records that I have are listed in Ancestry. Com.) It seems to me that Ancestry. Com does not have all the Districts listed, they weren't in Navarro County or my eyes are failing...........The following is part of: "Mr Phillips had a part interest in the gin in Blooming Grove, In 1900 when he was still a comparatively young man, he received internal injuries in an accident at the gin and never regained his health. He died Oct 05, 1901. Prior to his death, he made plans for his family by selling the large farm and buying a smaller place in town near the school." Thanks for your time and effort, "DU" Phillips Boone, NC

    2. Thanks to all of you who looked for the town of Bivins, Texas. A cousin in California wrote that it is in Cass County about 10-15 miles east of Linden, Texas. It is spelled Bivins instead of Bevins. Thanks for looking. The people on this list are wonderful. Anne Wilson anne-wilson@juno.com

I checked my database of place names and the Handbook of Texas without finding it. Nor is it in the USGS place name database. I also looked at Texas Almanacs for 1912 and 1925 (the only years I have in the era you mentioned) and did not find it. The Almanacs back then didn't list every town; lists were of towns with post offices or incorporated towns. So Bevins must have been a speck. Sorry to strike out. Roger Bartlett

Murphy, Mrs. Murphey, Crews, JAT Scribner, WB Kannon, Mitchell, Wright, Collier, all the names associated with our family just SE of Pleasant Mount. This is very exciting to me and I've never seen it all drawn up like this, sorry if I can't contain myself! As someone pointed out, these names and several others there are found together in Navarro & Hill Co. TX, and go back before to Franklin/Warren/Bute Co. NC in the 1700s. I am searching for information about the descendents of George Lewis Fagala, son of George Fagala and Abigail Kaneaster and Sarah Elizabeth Varnell, daughter of Albert Varnell and Eliza Bradford. The Fagala and Varnell families went to Navarro County, Texas ( Barry, Blooming Grove and Dresden) from Murray/Whitfield County, Georgia soon after the War Between The States. I believe they had 5 children- Annie M, Nora, George, Albert Arthur, and Lula. Any information will be appreciated. Anne Wilson Bella Vista, Arkansas anne-wilson@juno.com

    2. Roger Bartlett
    3. The 50th homecoming and annual business meeting of the Rice Cemetery Association will be on Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Rice High School. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. A covered dish lunch will be in the high school commons area after the memorial service. The business meeting will be after lunch, no later than 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will honor loved ones who have been buried in Rice or elsewhere since last year's homecoming. If you know of someone who should be on the "buried elsewhere" list, please mail the information to Joanne Murphy, 1700 Glenbrook, Corsicana, Texas 75110. The Cemetery Association will provide barbeque, potato salad, iced tea, and bread. Please bring a covered dish if you reasonably can do so. The new Rice High School is located just south of Rice on the west side of Interstate Highway 45. A large parking lot is on the south side of the school. The overpass at Rice is open. Past generosity has enabled the Cemetery Association to provide quality care for the cemetery. With continued support, that caretaking will continue. If you are unable to attend and wish to contribute, please send a check to Rice Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 117, Rice, Texas 75155.

    1. RE: [TXNAVARR] general information on courthouse, please
    2. Jason Haydon
    3. Hi All, Thank you all so much for the good information on researching at the courthouse in Corsicana. I recieved about 8 replies, and now I really just can't wait to get there. For those that asked, I am working on my great great grandfather, Dr. Zachariah Taylor Hodge, MD. He moved to Corsicana about 1897/1898. I am trying to find marriage and land rcords for him, and a copy of his will. If possible I am also trying to see if he and his second wife were divorced. They were married 2 years accoerding to the 1900 census, and accroding to the 1910 census he married his third wife, Mary Emma SPARKMAN, a cosuin of his and his first wife, in abt 1902. Dr. Hodge ran a dairy farm there, and his house is still standing in Corsicana from what I have been told. By chance does anyone have record of a Mrs. Bettie (------) CUBLEY with daughters Mabel b. 1889 and Corrine b. 1892? I believe that her (Bettie's) maiden name might have been Elkins, from information from her son's death certificate in California. But they allowed me to go down into the basement and go thru all the marriage books and the books of Marks and Brands. Corsicana is so small you will have no trouble finding it. Go to any of the search engines yellow pages and then go to mapquest.com and get directions from whereever you are coming. The library is not far from the courthouse as I recall.
