I thought I had a scatter-brained idea about DNA testing of unmarked graves for genealogical determination, but now I see their doing it with Christopher Columbus' brother. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=624&e=1&cid=624&u=/ap/20020917/ap_on_sc/spain_columbus__graves You wouldn't have to actually dig up the body, just do a small diameter sample core, after determining position of the remains with sonic or VLF radar. Same technology as the shotgun taking a picture of the buried dinosaur in the movie Jurassic Park (first). Then there are the ethical questions. How old is old enough for an archeological dig versus disturbing my relatives' remains? DNA is sometimes good for many hundred years. Sorry this is a bit off topic, but I think its a potentially important, albeit expensive, genealogical application. These lists need a little firing-up anyway. Greetings ye all, Hope everyone has found many old ancestors over the summer. Would any of you have experience with, or know where one might locate the following English public records? I see that they are deposited in the Public Record Office in Kew, wherever that may be. Can anyone give me any information about the family of McKenzie Reed & Ann E. Varnell Reed? They married in Whitfield County, Georgia and went to Texas in 1905. They were farmers and settled in the Clarendon, Donley County area. Their sons were Millard Felmon, Albert, Horace and Leonard. Horace changed the spelling of his name to Reid. McKenzie and Ann had siblings who went to Texas and most of them settled in Navarro County. I have sketches of information about this family but would like to have a complete record of them. Hello, I recently obtained a box of family photographs from my mother. In it I found a school group shot that I have determined contains many of the students from the graduating class of 1912 - including my great-aunt, Fern Cheshire. If anyone has an interest in this photo, please email me privately and I will send it to you as a jpeg file. Attached to the photo in my great aunt's handwriting is a list of names. It appears that she was working on a class reunion sometime in the 1960's - perhaps a 50 year reunion. She has made comments as to places of residence, whether deceased, and married names of female students. Listed below are the names of the students as transcribed from her notes. Hi. I'm trying to locate the graves of Thomas Franklin Owens, and his wife Josephine Owens. They died in Streetman, Mr. Owens on 19 March 1919, and Mrs Owens 2 April 1946. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can tell me where these graves are located. Sandra, You might type Texas Bureau of Vital Stastics in the Search on your computer. You can print out a form to get a death certificate. I believe their charge is $9.00, but I don't know if they would have records back that far.
There may be some newspapers from this time frame. I suspect if there were some this strike would have been covered. Someone in the the Corsicana library or the genealogical society might help. I also believe there is a website which gives a list of newspapers in publication, but I can't remember the url. If I find it among my mounds of "stuff" I will send it to you. -----Original Message----- From: Sandra Price [mailto:sprice@redshift.com] Sent: Friday, July 05, 2002 12:21 AM To: TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TXNAVARR] 1894 Railroad Strike 27 July 1894 my great grandmother Jennie COLE was in Corsicana, Navarro, TX and gave birth to my grandmother Frances Leon Gegley. Dear Researchers: I am trying to locate information for my 75 yr. old aunt whose last wishes include finding her great-grandmothers Heritage. My aunt has taken chemotherapy for 3 years. She had cancer on her Colon, lung, kidney and liver. Last week she got a good report from the Dr. Only a small spot remained on her lung, then practically overnight she took a sudden turn for the worse. Monday the DR's found 5 small tumors on her brain, and now she has lost her vision due to the brain tumor's. Last report as of noon today they have given her 6 months of what they consider quality life, with radiation and chemo at the same time... She and I have tried for going on 16 yrs to find any info on her g-grandmother, Dianna Elizabeth Wilson Born about 1810-? , In Newberry SC , Parents unknown. Dianna Wilson lived with her Wilson family until she married John Montgomery in Newberry SC 1825. She had 2 Children with John Montgomery Mary Anne Montgomery 1827- John Calvin Montgomery 1829-1916 Marshall Co., TN John Montgomery died in 1829 just a few days after his son John Calvin Montgomery was born. About 1834 or so the widow,Dianna Wilson Montgomery married James J.North AKA James J. Titus in Newberry SC the couple had 2 sons possibly more. They were William H. M. Titus abt 1835 and Frances J.M.Titus abt 1837.(Frank) Shortly after, the familys consisting of Titus,Wilson's and Montgomery's moved to Marshall Co.. Tennessee near the town of Palmetto most of which stayed and raised families in and around that area of Tennessee. Im trying desperately to find out who Dianna's parents were? (IF) anyone has a Dianna Wilson sometimes called Annie, who was born in the Newberry, SC area who later lived in Tennessee please contact me. If you have a female Wilson who married a Montgomery then a Titus,Or if you have a Dianna Wilson at all. If you are researching a line of Wilson's who migrated from Newberry SC to Marshall Co Tennessee before 1843? Then Possibly to TX. Im open for any and all suggestions, leads, ideas... Thank you so much for reading my plea...... Best of luck to all of you! Sincerely, Dianne
Hello! I am looking for any information about the Roberts family that moved to Navarro County in 1846. My great-grandfather, Jacob Riley Roberts was 2 years of age when his father, Benjamin Roberts made this journey. My grandfather's name was Rufus Riley Roberts and he lived in Elbert, Texas. As fate would have it, when my Mom and Dad eloped in 1951, they ended up in Tyler, not far from Corsicana, so I'm a Tyler girl. I am married now and live in Lancaster. My understanding is that Benjamin and Evan G.'s father's name was Aaron Roberts (married to Anna Stover). I can't seem to find any information past this. Thanks in advance. Nancy Fagan

Bevins is in the same county as Atlanta, which ever that one is (might be Bowie). Sorry, I just got in after being gone a week, and I do not have a map in front of me (plus I'm a little tired).
