Hi-- I need information concerning the Rice Cemetery in Rice TX. For years there has been a dinner held first Sunday of June and people donated money for the upkeep on the cemetery... My mother, father and brother among other relatives are buried there. On October 10th my other brother's wife was buried....this was on Thursday...her grave was covered with roses and sprays and ribbons...on Saturday morning, the 12th of October, my brother had gone out there and the flowers were there but when he went back there was not one single flower/ribbon left on her grave!!! You could see where someone had dragged the flowers off and see the tire prints of a vehicle...He and his children reported it as a theft...which it was!!!!! To there amazement the police called and told them , that the RICE CEMETERY 'CARETAKER' took all flowers off the graves every SATURDAY MORNING.........if this is true when did it start? and why wasn't other graves cleaned off?????? If anyone on here can give me an answer I would appreciate it greatly. It is sad that we have to lose a loved one, but for their grave to be desecrated in such a manor is unbelievable...I can understand if the flowers had been there a while and wilted/died that they should be removed but these were fresh roses, about a $1000.00 worth.... And when did the association decide to hire a 'weekly' caretaker? and who is he? Regards Janice DO NOT DRIVE FASTER THAN YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL CAN FLY
Hi List, I have a Irish Catholic ancestor that came to the Dresden Area of Navarro County in the 1880's. Can anyone tell me what Catholic Churches were close by if any. If none were close by, then within 20 or 30 miles? Thanks, Don McGovern __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? For many years, I have contended that the General Land Office is the poster child for public service. The employees there are the most congenial and helpful of any office I have ever walked into or communicated with by phone or correspondence. It has not mattered who was the Commissioner - the service has been superior under all of them. We are lucky to have this treasure trove in our state. Of course, it is the place to get not only maps but the original land grants/patents our early settlers received. Diana White ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edward L. A while back, someone sent the link to the Texas General Land Office Website which contains lots of old County Maps. This past weekend, we were in Austin and I went by the Land Office to see the copies (and the originals) first hand. I was so impressed I bought three (Navarro, Bosque, and Collin) and plan on getting several others. These are super high quality images, printed full scale on the highest quality paper in full color (most for about $15). The copies are as good as the originals, every survey name is easily readable. I highly recommend these maps. I am having my maps framed right now for display in the house. They are having more maps scanned and will have them posted to their website soon. Start here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~czech/birthindex.html You then have to click through several pages to get to the search page that works. I just tested it by searching for my nephew's 1981 birth and found it by searching on his name without having to know the county or date.

Rootsweb did have them, but now they are very limited by county search. Any and all help appreciated. Regards, Janice DO NOT DRIVE FASTER THAN YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL CAN FLY
Greetings from San Diego (California, not Texas)! I'm a travel writer living in San Diego and I'm doing some research for a story about a lady who I believe was born and raised in Coriscana. Her name was Frances Wilburn Allen Stephenson, or something very close to that. I am told that her father was one of the founders of TEXACO. I know she was a radio actress in Hollywood during the 1930s and was a friend of many of the big stars of that time. She eventually retired here in San Diego. She was also a close friend of my father. I met her several times before she passed away back in the late 1980s. I am looking for anyone who might have known her or anything about her. I've tried doing an internet search but that didn't help much. I hope you can pass this request along in your paper or to anybody or any organization in Coriscana who might be able to help me. There's a fascinating story here, if I can fill in some of the missing pieces. Thanx for your help, Larry Peery perry@ix.netcom.com posted to forum list by: Edward L. Hi All: Looking for my gggrandfather, Frank M. Long. I hear from my cousins in Texas that he may have lived in Navarro County. I don't know his wife's name. I only know of one child, my ggrandfather, Robert Irvin Long. Frank was born in Tennessee and his wife was born in Alabama. My Longs moved around like fleas on a dog. Even my own family has moved around alot. This makes it hard to get any info. Would like to find out who Robert's siblings were. The name of Frank's wife. Thank you for any help ahead of time.
