I would appreciate a look up in your cemetery books for the gravesite of Littleberry Newton Campbell who was my husband's grandfather. He used several variations of his name: L. N. Campbell, Newton L. Campbell, and Littleberry N. According to his death certificate he was born 1 Sep 1869 in TN and died 22 Jan 1922 in Cedar Hill, Dallas, TX and was removed to Blooming Grove, Navarro County, TX for burial. The date of burial was given as Jan 23 1922. His wife was Mary Jane McEntire, daughter of H. W.(?) McEntire of Navarro Co., Precinct 8 according to the 1930 census. They married in 1895, possibly in Navarro Co. as their oldest son, Earl Edmund, was born July 1896 in Blooming Grove. L. N.'s occupation on each census was listed as a Barber. I would be grateful for any information concerning L. N. and Mary Jane Campbell that anyone would care to send. (L. N. was one of my "brick walls") Thank you. V. Sue Campbell vcampbell@hot.rr.com

HOOD from the valley of Virginia to the ever memorable battlefield of Franklin, Tenn., where our much loved Cleburne fell on the breast-work, while leading his victorious little band on to victory under the galling fire of an overwhelming force of the enemy. It was said, then, that Texas was nothing but a den of cut-throats and robbers, but I have been here for six years, and I never saw a more law abiding kind of people anywhere, than I find in Texas. This portion of Texas is almost entirely settled up with Tennesseans, and the majority is from Maury county. Several families take your paper, and are highly pleased when they get it from the office and sit down by their quiet fire-sides and read the news aloud from their old native home to their families, who sit and listen with an attentive ear to hear what has happened near their old homes. Cotton picking is all the go now. Hands are getting from 80 cent to $1 per day and are hard to get at that. There is a great deal of cotton in the field yet, and will be for a long time - till near Christmas. Mr. Editor, can you not send us a car load of girls, so that the straggling Tennessee boys can marry and go to work? They have to go so far to see the girls the grass gets away with their crops. Please send some girls out here, if you can and oblige a true friend to Tennessee. N.A. N.
Hi, I know my ggrandfather and ggrandmother Tom and Lucy Jackson lived in Navarro at one time although I don't know for how long. I was just wondering if anyone had anything on them or if anyone could be related to them. Lucy was a WINNIE before she married Tom. I think my grandmother Allie Clyde Jackson could have been born there in 1888. Thanks for any help. Gayle
There are some "Pay For" sites that will list your eMail address set up for your High School, sorted by year. I have been thinking about doing this for the Navarro County Schools (only for Free). Please let me know if this sounds like something that you would be willing to participate in or any concerns or ideas you may have. For example, when a class mate passes away, that info could also be posted ? I am currently doing this on request for folks who's name appears on one of our yearbook extracts. What do you think ? .ed Edward L. Williams Navarro County TXGenWeb www.rootsweb.com/~txnavarr ewilli01@flash.net
Hi all, I wrote in Oct 2002 about someone stealing the flowers off my sister-in-laws grave...a few weeks later when we went to RICE CEMETERY, RICE, TX...we noticed a large section of fence torn down...didn't give it a thought, as we thought the cemetery association may be moving it....NOT... It was vandals...it has been reported to the president of the Cemetery Association and he said he would contact the fence company to have it put back up.... It wasn't ran in to....it looks like someone tied a rope/(or whatever) on a vehicle and pulled it down...I want to say from memory (not a good one) that about 4-5 sections were torn down. While listening to the Navarro police scanner on 1/10/3...it was reported that a truck was stopped and it had granite pieces in the truck, some of the pieces had crosses on them. The officer reporting it did so in case some of the cemeteries in Navarro county came up missing headstones...The person's story was that he 'bought' them or maybe hauling them for someone else.......so if you haven't been to your family cemetery in a while it might not be a bad ideal to go and check on things and report any unusual activity...we didn't report the fence because we thought the cemetery association was moving it...live and learn. Hi could SKS do a look up for me in the newspaper if possible? I am needing information on a maternal uncle that was killed by a train. It happened in Dawson,TX in 1947, his name was Hubert (may have been Hobart) Owens Music or Musick. There are conflicting stories as to how he died...my mom said the train didn't run over him..but it looked like he had been shot behind one ear, his body was found by the tracks with his hat "placed" on his chest.... Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Janice janiceh@airmail.net PS> I know Dawson is in Navarro CO, but thought maybe there might be a write up in Hill CO papers too...we were living in Hubbard, Hill CO TX at that time...I was born in Hubbard in 1945...so I do not remember any of this. Thanks for posting the burials but there is no known connection between these families. These burials are for the William Martin Lindsey Family. His photo and Bio are posted on the Navarro County TXGenWeb site. William Martin Lindsey's mother, Nancy Jane Thomas Lindey remarried to Henry Thomas Williams (bio and photo also posted) There is some discussion on just how W.M. Lindsey's father died... TB or Civil War. After they married in Arkansas, Henry Thomas and Martha moved their family to Emmett in the 1860s. They are buried at the Prairie Grove Cemetery at Emmett. There are hundreds of descendents from this family (Greens, Ballews, Osbornes, Williams, McAfee families are all intermarried to this family) William Martin and dozens of his descendents are buried at Dresden. They all had very large families. There is no direction connection to Thomas Sidney Lindsey that any Lindsey researcher knows of connecting these families unless it is WAY WAY back ! Sue Campbell mentioned a book "Navaro County Cemetery Records, Vol. VIII, Published by Navarro County Genealogical Society, (1988)" in her message to the list. Can anyone tell me what years are covered by these volumes? My husband has PATE ancestors who were in Navarro County around 1870. They disappear before the 1880 census when one of their children is living as the adopted son of relatives. Thanks for any help. Sharon Fitzpatrick

Try posting to the PATE-L list. The list is incredibly helpful and has a tremendous amount of knowledge about PATE families in the US. My husband is descended from J T and Mary (Fitzgerald) PATE who were in Navarro County in 1870 I believe. I am trying to determine whether they died there also. Their son was adopted by the Robert Harris family by 1880 according to the 1880 Grayson County, TX census.
