Hello ALL, Due to health and other personal considerations, I have ceased my major genealogy activities. I have for a number of years researched the surnames CADDELL (& variations inc CALDER), GREEN, HENDERSON, ANDERSON, GREER, BANKS, BATTLE(S), BELL, BU(I)RCHFIELD, KENNAMER, KING, and SINGLETON wherever they lived. For any of you who desires further contact with me, I may still be reached at "bcaddell@hcnews.com". Shortly I will not be subscribed to any of the Rootsweb lists. I would like to thank the person who contacted me privately about the DEARMOREs. I responded privately but after 4 days, I've been notified that the email failed to be delivered. I can't find the connection to Viola DEARMORE CHRISMAN & Aline DEARMORE FORT but your DEARMOREs are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery as is Viola CHRISMAN. S.E. wife of M. H. Dearmore, b. 21 Apr 1845 d. 26 Nov 1912 M.H. Dearmore b. 25 Dec 1835 d. 17 Aug 1908 (MASON) There is an unmarked grave in the Dearmore plot. I've been wondering if this could be the girls' mother's grave since I get the impression from the census that their parents are both dead by 1910. If you want pictures of these graves, I'll take them next week. I appreciate your response. Janet Cook
The 51st Homecoming and annual business meeting of the Rice Cemetery Association will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Rice High School. The new school campus is just south of Rice on the west side of the I-45 service road. A large parking lot is located on the south side of the school. The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. in the gym and will honor loved ones who have been buried in Rice or elsewhere since last year's Homecoming. Anyone knowing of someone who should be on the "buried elsewhere" list is asked to send the person's name to Joanne Murphy, 1700 Glenbrook, Corsicana, Texas 75110. A covered dish lunch will follow the memorial service and will be in the school commons area. The Association will provide barbecue, iced tea, and bread. Please bring a covered dish if you can reasonably do so. The business meeting will convene at the school after lunch, no later than 1:00 p.m. Anyone unable to attend may send a contribution to Rice Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 117, Rice, Texas 75155.
I am searching for the mother's name of Aline DEARMORE who married Cerf FORT and Viola DEARMORE who married Carl Stout CHRISMAN. I am trying to prove they descend from Franklin COOK through his daughter, Rebecca Ann COOK who married James J. SIMMONS. Their daughter, Laura, and her husband Ransom HORN, are shown in the 1910 & 1920 censuses to be grandparents of Aline & Viola. I am also trying to learn the cause of death of Nevill, Loice and Dee SIMMONS, children of James W. and Donie L. (JACKSON) SIMMONS. All three children died within a couple of days of each other in 1910. There are no death records recorded. They are buried at Oak Grove Cemetery northeast of Kerens. Thank you, Janet Cook
Was their an Earl McLain in this county. He is related to my great grand father William Harvey McLain that died in Hunt County.

In 1876 there was a business in Corsicana that went by the name "(Messrs.) Bates, Mallory & White". I believe that it was a hardware store but I'm not sure. Does anyone know how I could go about finding out the street address of the old business? I am fairly certain that it was located in the major downtown business district.
I have been researching my GGrandmother Margaret C. Frazier for lots of years. She was born 13 March 1852 in Navarro Co. I do not know who her parents were. She has been found on the 1870 census of Panola Co. TX. She is with the Wyatt Beasley family. She married John Moses Taylor 10 Oct 1871. He was a widower with 4 small children. They lived the rest of their live in Shelby Co. TX. I would like to know where she was in the 1860 census, and who her parents were. In the 1870 census the wife of Wyatt Beasley is Mary Elizabeth , I think a sister to Margaret. Any help would be appreciated. Frances Yates King frances@uci.net

FYI, many small town papers are doing this. Ours does, so does the neighboring town's. It did create a lot of stir at first in both places. But fewer things are free in any sphere than in the past. The fact is that processing obits does cost the paper money (staff time), and the product they have to sell (space). Especially in the current economy, many papers need to augment revenue. Many charge. The rate, $3 plus per inch, probably is a fraction of that charged advertisers and much less than big city papers charge for the same size notice. One compromise that might be suggested to the Daily Sun is to offer a brief free notice giving only name, age, home town, service time and place and funeral home information for those who can't or won't afford the cost of a full obit. Also to get the word out quickly if a full obit is coming but not ready by press time. That would take only an inch or two of space and much less time to prepare and it would help get the word out. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenda Bowling" <tbowling@airmail.net> To: <TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2003 6:14 PM Subject: Re: [TXNAVARR] FYI/Did you know? > Maybe the Daily Sun needs a lesson.....Obits have always been free.
