    1. [TXNAVARR] FARMER w/ DEEN, HOWARD/GERMANY, TADLOCK, PATTERSON, STROUD and others
    2. LaDoris Weber
    3. My great-grandfather, BURDINE FARMER, was born 1821 in Tennessee. Relocated to TX during the Republic. Served as Sgt., 2d TX Mounted Volunteers mustered San Augustine, TX. Served with 35th Regt, TX Cavalry, Likens' Regiment, Confederate Forces, during CW [Series Film M227, Roll 11]. Married 1850 Miss Luvenia Speer, d/o James and Penelope [Jacks] Speer, by whom he had seven children. Luvenia Speer Farmer died 1866 and is buried Smith County. Burdine moved with his young family to Navarro County shortly following the death of his wife. The first documented record of Burdine's presence in Navarro County is a Deed recorded in Navarro Co TX DB:630-631, 23 Oct 1871, wherein Burdine Farmer purchased two tracts of land lying on Richland Creek, from Fenley Cameron. Burdine Farmer raised his young family with the help of his mother, Marilla P. DEEN, widow of John DEEN of Franklin and Coffee Counties, Tennessee and Smith County, Texas. In December, 1880, Burdine married his second wife, Mrs. Sarah Jane [Germany] Howard. The widow of John Birdsong Howard, this devout lady was the mother of five HOWARD daughters and one HOWARD son; she had no children with Burdine FARMER. Sarah Jane was a daughter of James W. and Martha Elizabeth [Morris] Germany. Children of BURDINE FARMER and wife #1 LUVENIA SPEER: 1. James Alexander Farmer. Married 1882 Navarro Co to Theodocia Nancy Howard. Aunt "Docia" was the dau of John B. and Sarah Jane [Germany] Howard, and thus stepdaughter to Burdine. 2. Isaac M. Farmer. Married 1871 Navarro Co to Miss Robert Ann Crawford d/o Wesley W. Crawford of Alabama and Navarro Co TX 3. John Edward Farmer. Married 1876 Navarro Co TX to Miss Tempe Caroline Howard. I have no additional information on Miss Howard and have found no documentation linking her with the others by that surname in this family. 4. William C. Farmer [1857-1875]. No additional information. Suspect the initial "C" in William's name might indicate "Calloway/Callaway" as this name is prevalent in the Farmer family. Calloway Deen was a step-father to the Farmer brothers Burdine, Isaac and Alexander Patton Farmer. 5. Alfred Franklin Farmer. [my grandfather]: Marr #1. 1879 Navarro Co., Nannie Isabel Collins, d/o Parson Thomas or Tom Collins. 10-children Marr#2. 1908 Taylor Co TX., Alfred Franklin Farmer [widower] married Mrs. Martha Jane [Ketchum] Hand, widow of Moses Edmond Hand. She was the mother of six young children. Alfred and Martha Jane "Mattie" were parents of twins, son Alma Burdine and daughter Thelma Virginia , and the final child fathered by A.F. Farmer, Eva Mae Farmer [my mother]. 6. Mary Emma Farmer. Married George W. Tadlock in 1876 Navarro Co TX 7. Martha Ann Farmer. Married John W. Patterson in 1877 Navarro Co TX BURDINE FARMER and wife #2 SARAH JANE [GERMANY] HOWARD had no children together. SARAH JANE [GERMANY] HOWARD-FARMER and her first husband JOHN BIRDSONG HOWARD were the parents of 5 daughters and one son: 1. Theodocia Nancy Howard married James Alexander Farmer, s/o Burdine and Luvenia Farmer. 2. Molly P. Howard married Isaac Denton Farmer, s/o Alexander Patton Farmer [Burdine's brother] and Nancy Speer Farmer [Luvenia's sister]. 3. Ida Sarah Howard married Doctor Henderson Farmer, s/o Alexander Patton and Nancy [Speer] Farmer. 4. John Booth Howard married Miss Wallace Bunch, d/o E.S. and Martha Bunch. 5. Geneva Howard married Isaac Newton Thompson, M.D. 6. Alice Vivian Howard. no additional information. The mother of Burdine, Isaac and Alexander Patton Farmer was Marilla/Marilda P. [] Farmer Deen. The name of her Farmer husband is unknown; her second husband was John Deen by whom she had one son, A/O? R. Franklin Deen. He is believed to have died during the CW but this has not been documented. We also suspect that Eunice/Unicy Stroud, wife of Bethel Stroud, was a daughter of Marilla and unknown Farmer. This belief is based on strong but circumstantial and undocumented evidence. Marilla P. Farmer-Deen was born 1806 NC and died 1893 Navarro Co TX. Any information on the ancestry of the Farmer brothers or their mother Marilla will be greatly appreciated. LaDoris Doughty Weber

    3. I am still looking for Gillen researchers...I am looking for Joshua Gillen, b. 1855, Phillips county, Arkansas, and his nephew, Charles Gillen, b. 1865..Joshua was appointed guardian for Charles in 1875, after the death of Joshua's parents, John and Mary Gillen....I have evidence that Joshua was in Phillips county as late as 1877 but he is not in the 1880 census anywhere...I am thinking that perhaps he went off to Texas with other Gillens who were in Navarre county.... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
